I didn't see anything about it being official in that article.
I watched the press conference yesterday (before the satellite moved out of position cutting it off...) and the person from the records comittee (Brian Utley) made it very clear that these are merely preliminary findings, not official and he'd have to send a report to the comitee along with notes and data to be reviewed before it's actually official. Even in your link the word "preliminary" is used.
That said, it's most likely he broke 3 of the 4 records he aimed for along with a confirmed online record broken (Youtube record of most watched live stream), but it's not official and won't be for a while longer.
BTW: Going by the preliminary data, he fell faster than http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ThrustSSC has driven.
Such a Debbie Downer.
Ok, so it wasn't made "Official" by the "Official" but logically, if the sound barrier where he jumped is 690 MPH then it's pretty safe to say that if he hit 833 MPH he clearly broke the sound barrier record. Even if he hit 725 officially he broke the record or if he even hit 690.5 he still broke it.
We can wait for the "Official" word and if an admin would like to change the title to, "Maybe".
