I didn't call It a clone ? I simply meant some people will blindly agree with developers hoping they will make the right choice, no matter what they see and thats how game companies (mostly mmos) don't try to change because they still make money either way. And faction locking brings nothing to the table
What does faction locking bring to the table? On the player side, we've debated this fiercely bringing up many good points to support both sides of the argument. However, we have yet to look at this from Zenimax's angle. Just what does Zenimax gain from faction locking? Well, there are many things actually. Lets look at some of them.
For starters, it forces player to spend more time leveling up different characters, instead of just being able to focus on one. This makes the game artficly longer then it really is, because players will have to work more, just to experience content.
Another area Zenimax stands to gain in is the possibility of a cosmetic cash shop. Instead of making one ugly default looking character look more unique, you will have to spend the money to make 3 or more characters not look generic. This idea strongly suggests that there may be a cosmetic cash shop for the game. As I have seen this tactic used on other MMOs before.
So, there you have it, my conclusion is that faction locking is nothing more then a money grab, that doesn't really add anything to the actual game.
