Jagged Crown Quest Issue.

Post » Fri Sep 28, 2012 12:49 pm

Not so much a direct question, more of an opinion needed! In the quest 'the jagged crown', once the crown is retreived, you are to take it back to Urflich Stormcloak (or alternativly General Tullius depending on who you followed on escaping from Helgen [THIS IS NOT THE CHOICE IN QUESTION]) and join the stormcloaks (or Imperials). However, "only" on doing my internet research did I find out that you can betray whomever you are to take it back to (General Tullius of the Imperials or Urflich Stormcloak).... at NO point does it tell you that you have a choice during the actual gameplay. OR DOES IT!? Because if it does then ive totally missed it, but if it doesnt then is it just me or is that a HUGE gap in game? Regardless of if you as a Skyrim player like to visit all the cities on their own by walking across the land, or follow the main quests to get to the cities (i have done both), i still think the game should tell you about that choice when it comes along, not finding out by chance. Cheers people

And how exactly would the game tell you? Personally I don't mind that the game doesn't downright tell me these things. I like finding out about these things on my own.

AFAIK there is no indication in the game that you can switch sides at that point by taking the Crown to the leader of the other faction.

However it should be noted that who you follow out of Helgen has no bearing at all on which side you choose, either at first or when you turn in the Crown. You can follow Ralof out and still join the Legion, you can follow Hadvar out and still join the Stormcloaks. The fact that each one gives you an objective about joining his own side is irrelevant.

Totally missed my point there friend. An (optional) quest to take the crown to either would have been handy. However, once you choose either Imperial or Stormcloak, you cant change. Which is frustrating when you didnt know you had a choice. Regardless of finding things out by yourself, there is still a story to stick too, otherwise it would be a big free for all with no point or choices (ones we are made aware of) to make.

Lyn1964, im glad you seem to agree, there is something slighty missing which would have been handy to know. Had I have not stumbled upon this info, I would have joined the stormcloaks without knowing i COULD have joined the imperials by simply taking the crown to Tullius

theres enough hand holding in this game, some things should be left to find out on your own.

But if you really want to get into the game properly, surely you shouldnt have to 'google it' to find out? Certain things are great to find by chance, others are crucial to the overall gaming experiance.

You could have just joined the imperials in the first place if you wanted to fight on the imperial side. The player had plenty of time to make their choice, so most would not be interested in changing anyway. Some might play a less trustworthy character and have wandered off to experiment at double crossing. So they would have found they could change by themselves.

I did say in my original question that the choice at helgen wasn't the issue, and of it was you wouldn't have anywhere near enough info to choose then anyway, you just follow anyone really, but not knowing you CAN change is a big flaw in my opinion. It's good you can, however you should be notified somehow that the jagged crown will determine your entire side for the remainder of the game
