Kotaku Video is here: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1379724-june-6-kotaku-interview-with-john-carmack/

CVG link was removed because it didn't had part3 of the video but it were also the same exact videos as on pcgamer.

Update:
Some articles in text: http://www.theverge.com/gaming/2012/6/7/3068819/john-carmack
http://www.t3.com/news/john-carmack-unveils-virtual-reality-gaming-headset

I am contacting and trying to get videos in some original articles without vids.

Update 2:
I've just spoken with Eurogamer and they've said there was no video unfortunately, only audio, but the quality is very bad because of the noise around E3, but they said they'll do something soon that goes deeper, so we might get even more info, stay tooned.

UPDATE: Uncut Eurgamer Interview now online:

I am totally for this! :D

Can't wait for this new technology to hit masses, can't wait for megatextures + virtual reality to work together. Can't wait until it's a true first person experience, to be inside the game!

Man, Carmack is such a great genius, one of the greater minds of our time, and he gets extra awesomness points just because he designs engines for videogames. You can't deny that a genius that likes blood n' guts and guns is a very badass genius.

It's worth watching all of them because Carmack tells different details with different interviewers.

The funniest part is the kotaku interview where he describes one of those "email moments" ... and the part when he says "it's like looking at the world through toilet paper tubes"

And i really like the critical approach, he is not trying to defend the large companies ... it's just pure gold.

But the most important aspect of why these interviews are great is that he is NOT a media-[censored], he talks freely like he wants, he doesn't do stupid media pimps and spins and such as you see other developers fall into the traps like Cliff B. when he's like totally acting and faking emotions, making stupid media-consumer-hype gestures and saying things like "hey this is cliff b and you're watching GTTV" with annoying camera zooming ... and crap like that.
It is really a big thing that carmack retains his professional behavior , that's why he's pretty well respected around the interwebs, even the trolls are afraid of him.

it's just so great, i could listen to his interviews all day!

VR simulations? Interesting idea, but will my wallet think the same way? No.

Do you know the kind of tech you'd need to pull of VR simulations? A lot. I tell you right now the cost of this tech is in the Millions. Not to mention that you'd need a large room to actually store the simulation equipment. Also becuase the tech to make it costs millions, we're looking at price tags in the thousands just for one game.

At our present technology VR is just not financially viable, there's also the matter of mental health of people who actually use it.

They also need to drop using the VR goggles.

VR goggles are what's making it affordable ;)

To be honest, I'd rather use the goggles than to run around a "simulation" area looking and feeling like a dumba$$. After all, goggles can be made very light weight and with so little mass they won't be a problem, they can get as light weight as sun shades in due time.

If anyone is interested I found a thread on the subject at MTBS3D.com with both Carmack and Palmer discussing the VR headsets with other knowledgeable people. I haven't read through the whole thing because the thread is some 84 pages long, but if you love technical details it's great.

http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=138&t=14777

Over the last year I read up on the current 3D systems on the market looking for all the pros and cons and I have to say the amazing thing about the Oculus Rift is how simple, light weight, inexpensive, and effective the design seems to be. So far the only drawbacks I've heard of are that these early prototypes can be a bit blurry and low resolution, but that both are issues that can be easily remedied in the near future. It's a stroke of luck that Carmack and Palmer just happened to be working on the same idea at the same time and are able to collaborate.
