Here is video how to join to Fahter Elijah. To do this, you need speak to Veronica about Father Elijah(make sure all) before start Dead Money. Once in vault, there is additional dialogue about Veronica.

Well that's stupid. I couldn't mention Veronica just because I didn't talk to her about Elijah after getting the dlc, even though she was my companion. <_<

Not much of a psycho. The people he believed in to make the wasteland a better place were in trouble (BoS). He left so he could find the proper tools to save them and he found it. He found tech that would rise them back to power (Holograms, Cloud, Vending Machines). So he used that tech for what he believed was the greater good. I geuss it is true that his plan consumed him mentally.
