JoinLeave factions

Hi just wondering if can I join let's say The Companions, just to see all his side quest etc, and then leave em to join another one like The Thieves Guild, or can you be in both?=)

I'm pretty sure, as long as you can pass their tests, you can join all of them. Minus Stormcloaks and Imperial Legion of course.
