Jon Battle-Born a ghost?

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 8:54 am

So I was talking to Alfhild Battle-Born, just cycling through her dialogue, when she mentions her brother Jon.

You all know Jon Battle-Born. The one who stands outside of the shop in whiterun and says "Everyone is obsessed with death." every time you pass by.

Alfhild says "My brother Jon has the right of it. Join the Bard's College, stay out of this senseless war. Too bad he died before he had a chance."

Is Jon some kind of spectre? Has anyone seen him interact with other NPCs? Is this all just some big misunderstanding?

Maybe you killed him by accident and didn't notice it?
I killed one or two NPCs by accident while playing the battle for whiterun.

Some NPCs react to the death of their siblings. It changes their dialog. I had Nazeem's wife almost cry over his body, and then lash out at me.

Nah, just talked to him hours before. Haven't killed a soul, as it's a new game.

I understand he supposedly has a love affair with some Grey-Mane, but I haven't witnessed it.

I remember having that conversation as well, though I didn't make the connection. And Jon is definitely still alive in my game.

Did you talk to Jon after your conversation with Alfhild?

Whoa. That is pretty creepy. But that's not how ghosts or spectres work in the Elder Scrolls universe. We've certainly never seen a fully corporeal ghost that looks just like a living person. Such a thing is impossible, and if it weren't, I think it would be made into a far bigger deal than just some dialogue in passing.

Maybe it's a different Jon. I'd say it's just an oversight.

Actually never mind i read it wrong e.e

But yeah, i think it might be an error from the game.

Actually...

Spoiler
There's some ghosts in spectral form inside some ruins they look exactly like humans and yes, they are indeed dead, not just some fake ghost potion. But that because of am Sociopath mage that lives there, wich loves to torture people and experiment with then.
If those look "exactly like humans" to you, then you're experiencing a bug. They're supposed to be spectral.

That was a mistake of mine, i actually tought that ghosts from bethesda games didn't follow the "spectral form" formula.

Isn't one of the options you can say to him "Do you live here?" I don't remember being able to say that to anyone else, so someone mentioning he's dead and your character specifically being able to ask if he "lives" there could really mean something. Then again, maybe I'm wrong. It has been a while since I've spoken to him.
