I highly doubt that's going to happen unless you bring your wife out into the woods and dump her by herself.

I doubt Bethesda could create a game as complicated as that, lol. Most likely, anything 100 feet behind and in front will probably be paused.

Marry a girl who can take care of herself?

Alternatively, give her heavily enchanted clothes/jewelry/armour.

First off she will be inside and houses are not destructable. So no, it will not happen on accident at least.

If ur wife and ur village were slain by a dragon then its time to conan on that dragon
Lol TES is one of those games man.
That would be a whole games story but for TES games its just a new quest u made yourself lol
Come home to burning bodies in the street
U recognize ur wifes charred remains
The amulet u gave her still around her neck...
But her gold ring missing
U fall to your knees And cry out
Now its time to take revenge.....

Remember Beth saying that major city's are its own cells? I doubt that they will fly into major citys, Most likely Small towns or settlements.

That pausing isn't even the case in Oblivion, AI updates on almost all named NPC's throughout the game world even when you're not there, but not constantly to save resources. It has different AI processing levels, which is mostly based on distance. NPC's in actively loaded cells will update every frame, NPC's in cells you just left update every so many seconds, and NPC's in very distant places update every so many minutes, with 15 minutes being the max.

So you're wrong, it wouldn't be hard for Bethesda to implement this. But I'm pretty sure they haven't, as only a small minority of roleplayers would enjoy such random attacks in low level processing.

What if you come back home from hunting and you find your wife has killed a dragon?

Dovahkiin: Wow, what a waste of time... So much animal emptyness, today.

Wife: Hi! Look at what I just got for dinner, a dragon!

Dovahkiin: Woah! *dragon soul being absorbed*

Dovahkiin: Fuuuuuuuuuu!!!

Greybeards: *trollface*

Yes, it's possible. Which will add a cool feature to the game, a feeling of losing someone you love. Something that was never present in TES.

In any case, if she's in-doors, then no. It won't happen.

I dont think it is very complicated to do that, surely Bethesda could do it if they wanted to. (In Animal Crossing, the game was never paused and things would happen when you weren't around.)

It's like in real life, deal with it ;)

If you're on PC you could always use the console though I suppose.

However essential NPCs will not die from other people or creatures - only by your own hand, which was VERY good news to me. Once again the ability to do anything, rather than Oblivion's silly knock down-wake up thingy.

Women should stay in the kitchen where they are protected by the invincible house.

I'm going to buy the house closest to the College of Winterhold. If the mages don't work, it's time to collect all 60 words, purely for rp purposes.

Nothing happens while you are gone unless its scripted and why would your wife dying be scripted?

While walking through the fall woods near Riften, I feel that tingling sensation and am surrounded by a magical glow for a few seconds.

"Dragon Soul Absorbed"

Geese, I'd better go home and clear off the dragon bones. My wifey hates it when she has to do the dragon killing in the front yard AND put the bones away in the storage container for my smithing hobby in the shed.

*whistles a dramatic tune* as I head back home for the plunder, and...dinner.
