Just about done with this buggy game

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 10:21 am

Been a fan since Morrowind and while TES games, at least since then, have been buggy, Skyrim takes it to another level, at least in my experience. At this point I am just about done. I have been dealing with nothing but bugs for about 5 days now and it is just no longer fun playing for a bit, to find another bug, reload an older save, find another bug, reload an older save, another bug. I'm sick of it.

First, Unfathomable Depths was bugged and I couldn't complete the quest, reload older save and go back and try it again, same result. Find a way to edit Bethesda's script so I can finish the quest. Go to my house in Whiterun, find out that the weapons racks and plaques no longer work, reload before Unfathomable Depths to see if they were working, they were, reload before I finished Unfanthomable Depths and decide to just skip that quest as it seems to hose up too much. Move on with life and go to a misc quest at Dragontooth Crater. Kill the dragon, no soul absorbed, walk up to the wall, music is playing, the animation starts, but I can't get the word of power. Reload older save, try again, same results....

I have had more issues but this last stretch is it. I spend all my time replaying things just to avoid bugs. Sorry, don't have time for that any longer. This very well could be my last TES game which is hard to say because when it was working early on, I loved it. Thought it was the best thing since Morrowind, but now at level 34, it's just a buggy mess no longer worth my time.

Many people would agree with you and while the game does have a plethora of bugs it's rare that someone gets all of them or a lot, in your case it seems to be the latter. You didn't mention what console your on but if it's PC there are ways around them using the console but it is still frustrating (I couldn't become thane of riften or complete Boethiahs daedric quest without the console). All I can recommend is try reinstalling the game, start from scratch and try again with a different build and "hope that you get lucky".

I'm on PC and I'm not going to start over. Console hasn't been able to solve any of these problems. It might be able to handle giving me souls or shouts (my latest issues) but I believe that it's just going to continue to happen. I will then be forced to go to the console every time? No way, not fun.

Bethesda's games are not about quests, so that might be part of the problem as far as what you are expecting. That's always been true, but some people play their games focusing on quests rather than exploration. They intend the quests to be a way to lead the player to explore the game world, but players who simply explore anyway often ignore the quests partially or entirely.

If you think Skyrim has bugs, try FONV. Granted, it was developed by Obsidian using Bethesda's engine and tools, but it's far worse than any of the gamesas developed games.

You cannot explore in skyrim. Without fail if you do you will kill an essential npc( bandit chief, whatever) in a random cave that will bug your progress in one radient quest or another.

I have read so many of these kinds of threads and the common theme is almost always that the player went exploring early on and broke a quest in doing so. I've been one of the lucky ones and have not had any broken quests. I never enter a cave or dungeon unless a quest has guided me into it. Result? No broken quests.

Actually, that's not true, I do have one broken quest. I accepted to fight Hofgrir in unarmed combat when I had no gold. So that "quest" broke. But other than that I've had no problems.

And I should mention that I spend a lot of time exploring the land and not doing anything quest related. But I Never go underground unless it's to go mining, and I usually try to avoid forts unless someone has specifically asked me to clear it (i.e. quest).

Also kill lots of dragons at word walls then try to do a blades mission. Then tell me how "frustrated" you are. Btw, a girlfriend would help that.

if you've had it, then don't play? why come here and wine to us? i under stand if you post your problems but saying "i'm just about done with this game" pretty much takes away most empathy for you and your problems... just saying yo. and i'm on ps3, said to be the worst system to play it on, and i have no problems other then some rendering issues but then again i'm 90 hours in...

Dude, you are talking to a guy who spend nearly 2000 hours in Morrowind and over 1000 in Oblivion. How much of that time was spent questing? Not much percentage wise. As things stand right now, I have barely even started the main quest and I'm probably 150 hours into the game. I too have learned, as others have said, not to go into places and do anything that seems like it might be tied to a quest so I haven't done anything, I can't imagine I have anyway, to hose up the quest in question. Especially considering I had never even been that north before, at least not in that location. I refuse to fast travel and go everywhere on a horse. I do NOT play the game simply to complete quests and then put the game on the shelf. I get my money's worth so your assessment of what I am doing is wrong. The thing is, when you DO go through and try to complete a quest, IT SHOULD WORK. Period.

Playing Morrowind and Oblivion I can say that this game follows suit with those in that the further you go into the game, the bigger your save file gets, the more CTD's and bugs you discover, the difference here is, I have never run into so many bugs in either of the previous TES games that I wanted to quit which is very close to where I am now.

I have a wife.. but thanks.

Never fails, you always have to get one of these guys....

I guess the reason I come here is because it is the forums for the game I am complaining about. Does that make sense to you? Where else should I blow off steam and let the company know that when they release buggy games and don't fix them properly, it will eventually cost them money?

i got bored, have done virtually every quest, found every cave, ruin, etc.

playing some [censored] mw3(which i quit playinga month after it was out, to play skyrim, MW3 is mediocre.), to kill time, waiting on the DLC for Skyrim to inject some fun, hopefully.

I can't stress this enough, if you want to explore without fear of breaking quests use the dungeon quest awareness mod. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=11503

It let you know if a dungeon/cave/tomb/ect is attached to a major quest so you know to ignore that location. Any other location is then free game. I also regularly use console commands to fix broken quests. Its not cheating if the game is messed up. Also maybe try the unofficial patch, I haven't tried it my self because I haven't run into any game breaking bugs (that I couldn't fix with console commands) in my 300+ hours of gaming but I hear it fixes alot of issues and may be worth taking a look. Maybe some one who actually uses it can vouch for it.

That might help someone, but this isn't due to me having messed up a quest by my actions. I hadn't even been to the places where I'm having problems, EVER.
