I just answered my first call from a US political pollster

Post » Tue Oct 16, 2012 6:53 am

It's all rigged.

The questions, as expected, left no room for clarification.

'How do I feel about the POTUS's handling of the Federal budget?'

What does the POTUS have to do with the Federal budget?

The Congress controls the Federal budget.

The ONLY way the POTUS can be blamed for the budget is if it was accepted that the Congress had abdicated its' responsibilities...and a constitutional ammendment.

If you answer based on the 'ends' it would be a critique of the POTUS and not truthful.

If you answer based on the 'reality' it still wouldn't be 100% truthful.

The sad part is - regardles of how you answer it will spun to fit one sides argument.

Rigged...

DISCLOSURE: Rigged or not Mitt Romney, IMO, is dangerous for me personally and the Earth generally

I remember the first time I answered a call from a political pollster. They hung up when I told them I was under 25. (This was after I told them I was a registered voter and had voted in a previous election)

It's all rigged.

And you are just discovering this now? Where have you been for the past thirty years? Please tell me on a deserted island somewhere.

Sorry didn't know.

I didn't think it was "politcal" but regardless I stll didn't realize.

@The Tallest
Yeah, I "knew" but that was my first time answering a pollster phone call.

It was confirming and enlightening.

Moderators...lock away if necessary.

Before the thread is killed: America, fooling people into thinking they have real influence on the government since 1864.

Well, they don't want you to think or make an educated decision. They want to continue to polarize and mislead people and (hopefully) get their guy elected so they can keep partying with their huge stacks of cash. If people actually started thinking and becoming educated about government they'd all (just about all politicians from all parties) be in a lot of trouble. Well, you know, "rich people trouble."

I got a Political survey once, it was pretty much the same, the answers were rigged to only give a certain outcome, so i answered them as they should have been asked and they kept getting angry with me telling me to answer the question as it was asked, and i said the question is rigged to get a specific answer, so they said goodbye.

Either Psychology or Statistics need to be made mandatory classes in schools. Most "official" polls like this have very, very leading questions.

Just imagine that my post is rife with outstanding normatives and staunch, controversial ideologies. I don't have time to provide details.

That's why we need to either put a hard cap on campaign spending or limit politicians' contact with voters to a summary of how they voted on bills over their careers and a handful of debates lead by unbiased moderators. Otherwise big-election campaigns are just a huge pile of tricks and misdirections leading back to the same "us vs. them" fear-mongering and them laughing at us all the way to the bank.

...aaaand on that note I'm going to silence my cake-hole before I rant myself into a warning. I hate what politics has become in this country. :(

One of the questions asked what is the most important issue...something or other. A lot of the questions were rephrased in different ways so I can't remember the specific way this was asked.

I chose education.

Homeland security. Terrorism. Deficit...

When I heard "education" I knew that was the "most" important issue. An educated population makes better decisions on ALL issues. Even poll questions.

On a couple of the questions I told him 'I can't answer that' to avoid answering leading questions.

Considering we have a thread with over 300 posts in Skyrim General, and my topic name change request has yet to be answered, I assume so.
