Just Got New Vegas!

Post » Fri Dec 10, 2010 12:36 am

I just got new vegas tonight and can't wait to dig in! I'm going to be up all night doing a marathon session and I have my soda and chips at the ready. I'm so excited.

My question is what can I expect? I'll be playing for a good twelve hours. Anything I should know or look out for?

talk to people in goodspring. you will be warn about strong nasties. heed the advice. do the quests in the town.

you will get a chance of getting a sidekick in a nearby town. but you will need parts which you can find with some exploring.

Talk to everyone/thing with a name, search everywhere and explore the Goodsprings area and you'll head out pretty well equipped for the immediate challenges. Don't go any further north than the graveyard or east than the memorial.

Oh, and to travel a little faster, hold down R to holster your weapon,

Welcome to the forums!

What?

Also, is it just me or is this section of the forum a ghost town?

Not at all, I rather like this section. My advice is to try to level up while you're in Goodsprings but you have most likely moved on in your game by now. Stay on the blacktop roads for now until you level up more. I also advise not taking sides this soon. The game more or less railroads you into taking certain sides starting with Goodsprings but you don't have to do that right away. If you venture out kill lots of animals before killing people, again, you'll get railroaded into taking sides before you might be ready. And yeah, go inside all the buildings you can like in Primm and talk to everyone that will talk. Remember, you are a courier for the Mojave Express, courier 6 to be exact. ;) Have fun with the game and forum, welcome!

Expect a broken game.

And yes, this forum is dead compared to the Skyrim section. The second thread on the first page of this new vegas section was last replied to two hours ago. Compared to the skyrim section that has threads on the third page that have been replied to within the last fifteen minutes.

You created this thread last night and it was still on the first page with only eight replies. That's crazy.

It's been over three months, most move on. Or get tired of the same topics. I know, I know, someone will come in and tell me how this or that specific forum still gets a zillion posts a year or more later, but that's usually an exception. Tho I think the NV forums did slow down a month or so faster than most I've been to. Skyrim is anticipatory...people like to discuss the maybes. :D

To the OP ... hope you're enjoying the game so far. My general advice would be to explore a little/go off the beaten path (but not too far, at least early on), maybe raise Speech some so you have optional approaches. If you like to play with companions, remember they have personal quests and they're mostly worth taking the time to do, if only for the story immersion. Don't worry about whether you're doing things in the right order...the game's pretty forgiving about things like that ... unless you get a bug of course. Oh and remember, karma may not mean a lot in this game, but reputation does. Try not to anger a lot of factions before you've made up your mind who you want to support/not support, because it can often be hard to make up for it later. Have fun!

i like this Forum, it's not too overloaden... so - no - it's not dead.

My tipp for the game... It's about stories - that's the strong point of Fallout. So it makes a lot of sense to read what people have to say. There are a very many kinds of Couriers you can play so don't expect to be able to get everything in the first playthrough.
Do it like a roleplaying game - feel your character what kind of person is this - maybe they change through what they see... and try to play his/ her personal game.
Plenty of time to get the other solutions with some other character.

And yes - be carefull in the beginning - later on it's not so difficult anymore - you can find companions along the way.

To me a MUST HAVE is the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Portal:Fallout:_New_Vegas i couldn't do it without ... without climbing up walls that is. But try to do as much as you can without - part of the fun is to find things out in game. (like reading along the questdescription is heavy spoilering)

There are lots of different builts - it seems like a sneaking sniper who's able to repair is one of the easiest paths.

And yes - there are bugs as in glitches and hangups ... but then - it's an imperfect world.

So - have fun!

Watch out for the invisible walls. They're menacing.
