Why would you get a guide on how to play a singeplayer game? A roleplaying game? Doesn't that just ruin the fun of it?
Never seen this guide, and don't know whats in it, but please tell me what you get out of it... :)

The hardcover version, as a physical artifact, is beautiful. Some people, like myself, are book lovers, and would much rather have an expertly published book to represent the game than some useless game box or cloth map.

Also, the amount of information in the book is staggering. You have no idea until you open it up. This game is on such a higher level than any other game... and you really understand this when you're reading the book. People always associate guides with walkthroughs, but the walkthrough in this guide is almost an afterthought. The guide is just massive, and contains every single thing that's in the game.

The Oblivion guide was like a bible, and this one for Skyrim, even more so. It's almost an essential purchase for Skyrim enthusiasts.

Yes but the Oblivion guide basically also told you how to do every quest in the game. From the size of the Skyrim one I saw at the store it probably has the same thing. Basically they should name it Spoiler Guide

Nah, the guide just provides the information that's in the game - much of which people miss, not even realizing it. It's nice to have all that information in one place, in hard copy form. Where the guide will shine will be in the months and years to come, when I've finished the main quest. That's when I'll really start to dig into it.

It's almost too big! And I can't stop playing the game long enough to read it :)

It is very nice though - I'm sure I'll get to it once I've played through the game 2 - 3 times, okay maybe 5 times,....

Just cant see it as a "Strategy Guide" when they walk you through every quest. No matter how much other good information is in it. If they leave out walkthroughs then I agree it would be great and I would have gotten it as it would have been a true Strategy guide. Where it gives you information for you to develop a strategy. Not show you how to hit the I WIN button.

does this guide contain the type of information my char would reasonable know/find out about the game world, but that i can't find out ingame due to the limitations of conversation?

I don't want spoilers and walkthroughs, but interesting factoids that i'm unlikely to realise without 100s of hours playtime are definitely worthwhile. E.g. Goblin clan behaviour in oblivion, where there are concentrations of certain plants/animals, legendary artifacts/locations that are in skyrim. This is the kind of stuff my char would ask about in conversation, but ingame you have to stumble across it somewhat randomly

Are they done printing the hardcopy version? It seems to be out of stock everywhere and users on Amazon are asking $70+.

Seems like it would be a great read outside of quest spoilers.

Agreed that would feel like cheating to me

If I do get stuck on something and after trying for hours I just come here to the forums and ask

I would maybe consider it after I have done the whole game and missed things

P.S.

There a .pdf format one or E-book?

I really wished they had sold this guide as 2 separate books shrink wrapped together

656 pages is just too large to handle

They needed two 300 + page books

1 on the charts and training

1 on the maps and quests

I agree, if you read the quest sections or look at the detailed maps (the first time through). This guide is huge and contains a ton of useful information that can be read without giving away the "I win" solutions. I am very pleased with the hard back guide ... it is very well made and quite a deal for $23US.

I'd like a book reporting the text of all the books in skyrim world. I always liked to read all of them, but I don't like to do it in-screen, I'd do it on the metro going to work...

I have it sitting on a table and it calls to me but I'm not looking yet. I'll have a lot to read later because I'm sure I'm missing things but I want to learn for myself. It sure is beautiful though...so much knowledge in there.

Collectors.

Can you say you own the big huge Morrowind strategy guide(which is like reading a Steven King noval, especially when reading Bloodmoon)? Cause I can :P.

I like my guide, but it lacks some of the simplest information. I was going crazy trying to buy decorations for the Breezesomething house in Whiterun. I was getting really cross because I'd already bought some, but then the guy wouldn't sell me anymore. The guide could have said he wont sell you any if he's on the great porch!!! No logic there at all!

I bought it solely for the poster-sized map. I had an old poster of Wayne Rooney up since 2005 and I needed change (I hate Man U now...).

I myself have bought the guide too. Cost £19.99 but it's worth it. It really is an awesome guide. 650+ pages of stuff. Pretty much everything in the game is in it. With a game with the scope of Skyrim it's well well worth it and no, it doesn't spoil anything unless you spoil things yourself. There's so much info in it that doesn't even relate to spoiling anything it's absurd.

I bought it when I got the game. Honestly didn't even plan on looking through it until I beat it the first time, but had to break down and check when I wasn't sure of a choice to make. Deadric quest in the game, you get the choice to get an artifact or keep the weapon you find. Honestly wasn't sure which would be better so had to look up the stats of both items.
