Just installed FOMM but it crashes when I try to run it

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 7:04 am

I am using Windows 7 OS, and have Nexus Mod Manager installed, too.

I get this error when I try to run FOMM: Something bad seems to have happened...

HEre's the crash dump contents:

Sunday, March 04, 2012 - 11:22:23 PM
Fomm 0.13.21
OS version: Microsoft Windows NT 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1

System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
at Fomm.PackageManager.ModInstallLog.InstallLog.InitMods()
at Fomm.PackageManager.ModInstallLog.InstallLog.Load()
at Fomm.PackageManager.ModInstallLog.InstallLog..ctor()
at Fomm.Program.Main(String[] args)

Not sure what the prblem is here, or how to fix it.

To clarify: do I need FOMM in order to work with mods in FONV, or is NMM, BOSS, and the New Vegas script extender enough?

Thanks.

NMM is a replacement for FOMM, so NMM and NVSE is enough. BOSS certainly makes sense, since I assume you're using others' mods and not whipping up your own.

The New Vegas Stutter Remover (NVSR) is a plugin for NVSE that I'd highly recommend (just be sure to adjust its settings as it cripples your max framerate to 30 by default). After using it, it's hard to tolerate playing without it.

On the NVSE website there's also a launcher that lets New Vegas use more RAM which would let you use more memory-heavy modifications (like high resolution texture packs) without hitting the 2 GB ceiling (I'm assuming you're on Win7 64-bit, so it'd let New Vegas use up to 4 GB instead).

Thanks. Yeah, I grabbed the fnv4gb.exe first thing after installing nvse
I'll try the stutter remover, too, if I encounter any microstuttering.

Get it regardless. It's hard to put into words how well it improves game responsiveness. I have a beefy enough computer to run the game at max settings, 60 FPS, blah blah blah, but the NVSR was still worth using. I only kicked myself for having avoided it for months initially thinking I didn't ''need'' it. And unlike an ESP/ESM mod, if for some reason it gives you issues, it won't have dirtied your save; you just delete its DLL file.
