Just something I thought of today PC gamers only

So I was just thinking for about a hour about this topic.

Since Microsoft's Xbox One and SONY's PlayStation 4 (PS4) consoles have PC architecture and run on 64 bit Operating Systems (OS's) this has came up to me about the PC versions of video games and what the possibilities that can happen with creating, developing mods for the PC versions of video games that run on both 63 bit Operating Systems (OS's) and 64 bit executables.

The PC version of Call of Duty: Ghosts runs only on 64 bit 32 bit is gone.

The PC version of Watch Dogs runs on 64 bit only as well.

So imagine what would the possibilities of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim modding be like if it had support for 64 bit which allows for more than 3GB of RAM which 32 bit has.

Discuss away what you think and how PC video games that have mod support and only running off of 64 bit will look like for us PC gamers in the next year and the next decade from now.

Just the thought of it makes me salivate.

Microsoft would never allow it, I doubt Sony would either. Since they might see it as a danger to the DLC sales.

Confused? This is discussion about the possibilities on PC. I was using Xbox One and PS4 as a example because video game developers are now moving to 64 bit 32 bit is gone we all know mods aren't allowed on the consoles.

Call of Duty: Ghosts PC version is 64 bit only and Mark Rubin and Infinity Ward are discussing releasing mod tools again for PC like back in Call of Duty: World at War days.

The Elder Scrolls VI will definitely be 64 bit and we all know The Elder Scrolls VI video games come with mod tools.

Oh and Galactic Civilizations got announced today as 64 bit only

Ohhh, I see what your saying. What are the possibilities of modding with the new architecture. I have no idea, I'm not a modder.

Edit

I can agree that GalCiv 3 looks neat, but I hope it has multiplayer.

Hmm well for the first video game that has 64 bit support and mod tools I am planning on creating a mod that has over 10,000 NPC's.

For example I made a mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that has 5,000 trees from White Run to Solitude about 200 Deer, 200 Sabre Tooth Cats, and about 100+ NPC's if I wanted to put more in my mod it would have bad FPS drops and freeze, stutter, whatever because of the 3GB RAM limit and my mod has 0 scripts I wanted to make at least 8 scripts for it.

You really need to step back from the trees that are mods and instead look at the whole forest. What consoles going to X86 architecture really means is now games can reach the full potential that the hardware can achieve. Less compromises in games because of console processing limitations. You would not need mods that add NPCs or content to a PC game because they were removed for console hardware constraints.

Lack of RAM has nothing to do with the sutter/FPS drops. That's CPU/GPU stuff. Optmizations are needed and/or you need better hardware.

Yeah I know this the only problem is mods are not allowed on the consoles so I just want to know what PC gamers will achieve in the years to come with 64 bit + mod tools just thinking of this is making me salivate :D.

True. But 64 bit allows for virtually unlimited content creation.
