Just as I was thinking "Wow, great DLC"...

Post » Sun Feb 03, 2013 8:39 pm

Greetings,

I stay away from game boards for the most part because I always end up seeing somebody post something about a glitch/issue that I had not noticed, and hence did not bother me or detract from my enjoyment of the game. Once a "problem" is brought to my attention it will from that point on drive me nuts. So, "What you don't know wont hurt you" is never more true for me as it is in my games.

Anyways, the reason for my post is to point out (and possibly learn a workaround for) a gamebreaking (for me anyways) bug that I came accross 55 hours into my most current game.

I had just finnished "The Temple of Mirrak" quest and I thought it was great; tons of fun, Elder Scrolls at it's best. Of course it wasn't an hour later before my game was ruined and all the winds of enthusiasim for the DLC takin out of my sails.

My problem started after cleansing the earth stone and resting at the inn in Red Rock. I exited the inn ready to sell off all my loot and carry on with this most enjoyable DLC, but a couple of NPC's in the town had other ideas about me enjoying this game..."Slitter" the Dunmer thug, and his Orc Boss (can't remember his name) decided they were gona agro me as soon as I stepped out of the inn.

OK, NP, I'm playing a Redgaurd blademaster with a short fuse this game so BRING IT ON!!! My Housecarl promtly one hit "Slitter" in comical fasion so I laid into the Orc with my blades held high. Only problem is...the Orc won't die, he behaves like a "protected" NPC. None of the other townsfolk/gaurds will react to this epic dust-up going on right in the town square.

Of course I tried everything I could think of. reloaded, tried other saves and ate some good proggress, yadda ya. If I can't interact with Red Rock because of this nonsense then the game is broken as far as I'm concerned. I'm PO'd, thats ALOT of time to invest in a playthrough and hit something like this. This is a huge game and i know there are gona be bugs, but this?

Anyways...any workaround? I play on master so I get hit HARD in melee. I suppose I could turn the game to novice and let him pound on me while I do my buisness in town and act like he isn't even there. The fact that he is "protected" worries me though; makes me think he is part of a quest or something and my game is FUBAR.

Anyone else hit this snag? Any Ideas? Any other parts of the game this nonsense comes up that I should know about/prepare for? Any word on a ROUGH time frame for the next patch?

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum Mighty Daedroth444 :)

It is not actually a bug, although when the sod is unkillable it is inconvenient, he is only unkillable at certain points in the game. The steward you got for Neloth owed the Orc 1000 septims, so now you owe him the money.

-You can either kill him shortly after you get Neloth his new steward, or just pay him off.
-Wait it out till you can kill him, maybe one of the peace spells work on him as a temporary solution.
-Avoid him till you finish the main quest, he stays in the Retching Netch for a large part of the time, avoid or try sneaking around him when he is outside.

You can also get a bit of money out of the cheating rat who got you into the situation, but he does not pay that much. If you have a save near where you got Neloth his steward, I would go back to that one and deal with the Orc as quickly as possible. He threatens to send thugs after you as well, so it could get worse if you ignore him.

And having a trouble maker you cannot kill is hardly gamebreaking, they are just giving you a challenge, a very annoying one.

Thanks for the reply!

Some good ideas/suggestions there. I havn't got around to trying anything out yet, but one thing I should mention...

This quest/NPC you are refering to I have never even come across yet. Neloth's steward? I have not been to the Telvanni tower during this playthrough yet, but somehow I guess I triggered something, somehow.

Calm spells were the first thing I thought of trying, alas the only option my Redgaurd has is a Harmony scroll...no dice. It woulda made things too easy I guess.

Still I'ts nice to know there are options, thanks again for the reply.

None of my three character ever managed to upset Mogrul any other way, what did you do? Were there any dialogue options, a bounty maybe? You stole something? If you go do Neloth's quest, you should be able to kill the trouble maker.

I might try hiring a room for the night at the Retching Netch with my one character who chose not kill him. Just to see if there is an extra quest there.

I can honestly think of nothing that I did, said, or stole that would trigger his wrath. I was pretty new to Solsthiem (sp), All I had done Is complete "The Temple of Mirak" clense a few stones and make some Chitin Armor... I also messed around with those little goblin things in that mead hall.

Just the nature of the game I guess. So incredibly well done in many respects, but gltichy to the point of madness at times.

Can't have it all I guess.

Hmm...now that I think of it I DID steal a bunch of Eidor (sp) cheese wheels from the Netch.. I was stealthed and "hidden" at the time. I know this because I am ALWAYS stealthed and hidden when I steal something as a matter of OCD. I can't remember if I had stolen them way before this happened, or right before I rested and left the inn to find that he was trying to kill me.

Regardless, that Orc svcks...and I will make it a point to turn him into a pile of smoking ashes any chance I get in any future playthrough for causing me such a headache. My playthrough was going so well too; master setting dead-is-dead playthrough with my first ever Redgaurd Char, and I had made it to almost lvl 30.

I suspect it might have been because you stole the cheese from the Retching Netch. I am currently reinstalling everything, yet again since the game became too unstable for my main character. I get it playable again I will get Aussie to test it out and steal some cheese, see what happens. She might not get in trouble, maybe being in the good books paying him off, but do not have any other characters who can try.

I would just do the steward quest and kill the Orc if you want a more peaceful playthough with that character.
