Just when I was coming around... gameplay vids

Post » Fri Jul 26, 2013 6:48 pm

So I was just starting to convince myself I should stop being a stubborn ass and get amped up for ESO, and I decide to watch gameplay vids... ahhh no. What the actual f? Why is it seemingly a huge step backwards from skyrim with it's weird cartoony look, silly anime style combat and fat wolves? My god the fat wolves... what were they thinking? This is next gen systems as well? Looks like a nintendo 64.

When I see a post like this I always ask myself how can people judge a game's graphics and gameplay from a horrible quality video? You can't determine if the graphics look good, and the fat wolves you're talking about, the camera adds 10lbs everyone knows that. But watch http://youtu.be/DksSPZTZES0?t=1m33s and tell us if you change your mind.

Relax. It's still in beta. Things will change. And by the way, I don't think ESO should be compared to previous TES games graphics-wise considering Bethesda is not making it.

You can tell enough, it has that weird static mmo look where you stand and then you swipe your sword and then you stand and then you jump and you generally look like a rigid penguin. It also has that cheesey cartoony look. Then to top it off when you swipe your weapon they have a silly white swoosh mark trailing your sword, and when you connect there's an incredibly unsatisfying "tink" with some stupid visual effect signifying that a connection was made. A battle with multiple characters is a mess of tinking and swooshing and electricity animations from stupid looking people standing still taking turns to do their "attack" before going back to standing in a default stupid stance. Basically it looks really really really fake and WoWish, after skyrim did such a good job of bringing weight and gritty realism into combat. For me it truly spoils everything.

Can you link the video you're taking about? Cuz I haven't seen anything like this for 6 months.

I also watched this, and it makes me sad to think what a step down ESO will be after such dramatic leaps forward.

in comparison to actual cartoony asian influenced mmos, ESO looks nothing as you are trying to describe it looks exactly like an ES game would. I believe the combat strikes and dodges are those white Swooshes you are talking about, the sparks from the sword an such very realistic in a sense. As combat looking twitchy and unfinished, youre right, its exactly that hence why it is still in Beta. I wouldnt dismiss a game just based on the few videos we have seen, give a few months and especially the weeks leading to launch you might change your mind when it is truly in its finished polished form.

i wonder, how many people were seriously expecting ESO to look exactly like Skyrim?

That said, from what I have seen... It looks pretty damn close.

Remember, that video was probably made in their alpha...

Isn't the first video really old now?

I mean aren't there much more up-to-date vids of gameplay now...
