R Key Binding

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 8:27 am

Hello

I know this has been discussed and a "solution" has been posted (mod), BUT I have not found any solution for TESV.exe Ver 1.1.21.0.

I can't drop/store items with the default "R" key. I have downloaded a mod to remap your keys but it does not work. I tried using the games built in remapping feature but that also didn't work. I use a keyboard/mouse setup and I also tried a XBOX PC Controller.

I do not wish to update via steam because I don't want to have steam running while I am playing.

My understanding is that if I get the patches and use the mod, the sheath/unsheath key mapping should work, but like I said I don't want to patch.

Anyone have a work around?

Thanks in advance.

I think one of the patches fixes the remapping deal, so I do not see why you do not want to update the game, TBH.

Thanks for the reply.

Well, I don't like the idea of another forced patch by steam, or them poking around while I play. So that is the main reason. It seems though that I will have to bite the bullet since there is no other solution :unsure2:

Did you try to delete ControlMap_Custom.txt in Skyrim folder and restart the game? By applying any controller remapping mod, you might also delete contrlmap.txt in skyrim\\Data\Interface\Controls\PC\.
I hope it will recover the default key setting and you can enjoy the game again.

You have to configure the Hardcoded Keybinding Tweaks mod (I assume that's what you downloaded), it doesn't just fix everything by installing.

And no, the patches don't fix all/most keybinding issues (if you reconfigure).

I stayed on 1.1 for a long time, until the TESV Acceleration Layer mod allowed me to run 1.3. I still have to run a custom controlmap.txt (not HKT).

Search the forum for Keybinding Issues, I think it's the 2nd thread that has the walkthrough for extracting/modifying the files.

Sorry, I don't think there's a simple / ingame way yet.

Short version - to stay with 1.1 you have to manually edit the controlmap.txt file, and extract it from the game files if you haven't done that already.

OK. I tried your suggestion and it worked! I was ecstatic until.... I tried another key and it didn't work.. specifically... tab! LOL

Obviously that file has something to do with it, but what? I am not tech savvy enough to know right now

Merovign

I didn't download that one. I used the "Expanded 350 Hotkeys" mod. I am now using a keyboard/mouse though so I have another question.

Should I download the mod you mention?

Also, I did play around with the controlmap.txt file and assigned different hex codes to the key I wanted changed, but nothing. So unfortunately, even if I download the mod you mentioned I probably can't figure out how to configure it and believe me I searched online.

I see you said you switched to 1.3 for the "Acceleration Layer". What does that do? Improve FPS? If so was it worth it?

Anyway, thanks for you help and response.

Skyri\ControlMap_Custom.txt seems holding the key bind setting which is default or even customized. So, you would like to play the game with the default key setting, remove or delete this file and restart the game. Press the ESC key and select the control setting, then make no customize and return to the menu. The game will save this file as default setting. After that you can enjoy SKYRIM with default key binding, I believe.
You said "I tried another key and..." I'm not sure but you might have customized the key binding in your colour before saving the default setting.
If you like the default key binding, try it again!
