So i hear a lot of people saying something about activating their game with CD key. So my problem is that i haven't recieved any activation key when i pre-ordered my game from steam. All i got was the order info for my payment to e-mail, nothing else. Does steam even require any kind of activation or is it just that i buy it and then i can play it on 11.11.11?

The key comes with the game disc. If you preordered on Steam you don't need a key.

If you ordered through Steam the game should be in your games list.

Restart your Steam if you have not already, then right click the game and select pre-load.

You can pre-load by simply clicking pre-load when it's available... which is now. Once the game is pre-loaded, you'll be able to install it on 11-11-11 I think..... then a CD Key will be available with the game. I don't think you'll have to enter it since it's all been downloaded from steam and is auto registered. But it will be available in your games library if ever needed.

What I'm not clear on is can you install the game to a certain point after the download is complete? Then you have to unlock it on 11-11-11 with the key? Or do you have to wait to actually install the game until friday?

Yes i got my copy of the game from steam but i recall that when i bought fallout 3 pack from steam it game me some sort of key code to put somewhere but i never really needed it. but good to know that i don't need codes for it if bought from steam! thanks!

yeah some games that aren't steam works require keys to be activated outside of steam, MMOs, rockstar games etc.

The preload, click on the game, or right click on it and select pre-load. Restart your Steam client if you don't see it, applies for Steam pre-orders only.

Steam generates you a key when you buy a game. Every game you have, has his key. Sometimes you can also get bonus keys or other things. Or if you buy an MMORPG you will recieve the key to make an account. But if you want to use a game on steam you dont have to put that key anywhere.
