What is that symbol in its place?
2 does nothing I can't map it or anything.

The '2'-key is for alternate ammo, I think.

The '2' key is mapped to let you load alternative ammunition. I find that kinda silly, but whatcanyado (you can't remap it ingame, that's for sure!). You can probably remap it via the .ini file, though I doubt you can remap it to a quick-key, which is sad.

I've tried remapping it ingame and it worked until I ran the game a second time. :shrug:

Yep. Another failure to cater for PC users. 
Would have been fine to default the change-ammo key to 2, but at least let us change it to something else if we want. Keyboards do tend to have rather a lot of keys that could be used.
While I'm on the subject.. I was hoping for some direct-access pipboy keys, but no luck there either
