Keyboard and mouse support for consoles

Post » Tue Jun 25, 2013 1:04 am

I have played Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim on both the PC and consoles (I pick up the "game of the year editions when they're super cheap - Got Oblivion for $5 at a pawn shop for example) because sometimes I'm in the mood to chill on the couch, and console gaming lends to a bit more relaxed gameplay (in my optinion) - sometimes it's nice to just chill and run around.

However, with 8th gen consoles being so similar to PCs in both hardware capabilities and function, would it not be simple to integrate keyboard and mouse functionality to ESO? More options is never a bad thing, and I can see quite a bit of benefit for console gamers - being able to get the experience that those of us that game on the PC love so much. And as an MMO, keyboard and mouse plays so much nicer than gamepads (again, IMO) Also, ZOS can benefit from licensing "official" keyboard and mouse retail products.

If you play on consoles, would you consider getting a keyboard and mouse (if it is supported) for more involved gameplay?

It would cost a little bit more for ESO to do this but I think it would be amazing and it wouldn't be the first time a game company has released a game that requires a proprietary device.

I think it would be pretty awesome if Zenimax sold 2 copies of the game, one being just the game, and another which included an ESO branded mouse and keyboard. The game would only be usable with a mouse and keyboard but if you already have one than you'd just buy the game. it would mean less work for them in the long run as they wouldn't have to revamp the controls of the game, or change the UI elements from PC to work with the console.

Consoles have Controllers, PC has mouse and keyboards. If you play better with Keyboards and mouse, then play PC, if you play better with controllers, then play consoles, just my opinion...

But I play some games on my PC with a controller. So what does it matter if people want to play consoles with a mouse and keyboard?

It seems kind of weird, the reason you play with a controller is because it's a lot less complicated than a keyboard and mouse, right? to have it the other way around would be weird...

I wouldn't say much less complicated. Some games just work better with a controller. For example racing games on the PC work better with a controller than they do with a keyboard. Keyboard it feels awkward with a controller it is a bit more immersive. But then again that is a relative term

I get that - but i know so many people that love to game, but after dropping $600 on a new gaming console, they're tied to that, and don't want to invest more money on a PC that will be good enough to play the game well. Most people won't spend $1,500+ on building a Gaming PC just for a keyboard and mouse, though - even if they play better with KB/M

The new consoles run just as good as a really good gaming PC though, I can see if your used to a keyboard and want to use it instead of a controller, sure, but controllers seem a lot easier to get used to then keyboards, maybe it's just because I have been playing with a controller longer lol.

They allow pc to use controller so I dont see why they wouldnt allow a console to use keyboard.

Depends on how I feel about the controls with both. I use a controller with my PC for SWToR but when doing a lot of RP I will switch to a kb/m.

I use a keyboard and mouse for ps3 but only in certain circumstances. Really just depends on how it handles.
