do i need to hit it only once or need to do any % damage?

in automatron i have an OP robot who kills everything easily, and i'm afraid of not gaining any xp because of the kills...

how much damage must i do to earn xp after enemy's death?

you have to do 50%+ of the targets hp or the companion steals the xp. You get all other npc vs npc kill xp.

Which makes no sense since companions level automatically with you, so why do they need XP is beyond me.

You kill npc = xp

npc kill npc = xp

companion kill npc = no xp

But there is also times that NPCs are killing each other and we don't earn XP , I wonder why.

That's because Bethesda made the game to automatically give you XP for kills made by allied factions.

If you are walking around, and allied to the BoS, and the BoS are killing things in one of their raids, you get the XP for those kills since you are allied to the BoS.

But I guess that this is not mandatory for all situations of when we receive XP from NPCs , since we also get free XP at the glowing sea , where there is no one from any factions fighting in the open .

Edit: Sometimes I don't even know where they are :(

Now I'm confused then - how come if the raiders in Lextington kill the behemoth that appears there I get the 100-odd XP but if my settlers of defense turrets kill something attacking that settlement I don't get any XP?

bethesda should just allow you to earn xp when you or an ally kill something...

why create such stupid and confusing system?

I agree 100%. Seeing as the "level cap" is gone now, earning XP is a pretty slow process at later levels. It makes it infuriating when someone or something else gets the XP for a mid to high tier enemy kill.

I agree with that too , this is why I hate deathclaws fighting muties , radscorpions and other enemies , when I find them fighting it's time to equip a launcher and quickly kill those XP robbers lol

this is why I only equip npcs with boards and machetes, no chance of them killing anything.

If you pick up the magazine that gives you some extra xp while travelling with a companion, the companion occasionally stealing a kill shouldn't be that much of an issue. It all evens out in the end.

idk the requirement for you to get the xp for a companion kill...

when i fight raiders or supermutants, i get the xp even if i hit just hit 1 shot on any of them, but when i fight deathclaws or behemots, i need to do a lot of damage to count...

so i have no idea the requirement to earn xp from companions
