Killing Towns

Post » Sat Jul 28, 2012 1:29 am

If I were to say, kill every npc in a town that is possible, will they ever come back? I want to know before I start doing this. This way I can control who I kill (Calm spell will help with crowd control). Thanks!

When something is dead, it does not comeback to life, unless through necromancy. But be warned, some NPCs are essential and cannot be killed.

Why would you want to murder a town anyway?

I was wondering because on UESP it says for Rorikstead that it respawns in 10 days. I thought that referred to npcs as well. Oh well, looks like it is time to be a serial killer instead of a mass murderer. Thanks

Edit: @Ramnozack: It is for roleplay reasons

Unless you are on the PC, you can't kill an entire main city of a hold or oftentimes even a single village.

That aside, no. The named NPCs of a town never come back. The guards do, though. Not sure about named guards, though.

Only the guards respawn. Prepare for disappointment, though. Something like 2/3rds of NPC's are essential and cannot die.

Because I'm one of the good guys.

In any case, a lot of NPC's are quest-essential and cannot be killed. I couldn't get "Blood on the Ice" to start, so I just decided to snuff out the killer and be done with it. No joy: I gave the bugger enough battle-axe to kill a dragon, but he didn't die.

Essential NPCs is still the worst idea Beth has had in a while.

Dumb people got mad when they killed an NPC and it broke something. Beth (per usual) overreacts and idiot-proofs the game.

Rather that was how things were done, but then dragons had to attack towns... Now just be glad we haven't gotten dumb essential NPCs like the first guy you meet in Ultima 8...

It could be so people are marked as "Important" so that they cannot die by anything but the player's hands.

Add the ability to delete quests from the quest log so broken quests don't pile up.

Bam.

Dragons, like Flawed Claw said. Riften and Falkreath would be ghost towns in short order, otherwise. But, yeah. Idiot proofing as well. Being able to actually break the main quest certainly taught you to quicksave, though.

That is why you steal all of the eggs after you kill the chickens. Checkmate. :disco:
