King Arthur

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 2:25 am

I was thinking for a future build doing a King Arthur inspired build. I'll post the build and explain why I chose what I chose and see if it could be improved on.

Race:
  • Nord
Skills:
  • One Handed
  • Block
  • Heavy Armour
  • Smithing
  • Enchanting
  • Restoration
Perks:
One Handed
  • Bladesman
  • Fighting Stance
  • Savage Strike
  • Paralyzing Strike
Block
  • Power Bash
  • Deadly Bash
  • Disarming Bash
Heavy Armour
  • Well Fitted
  • Tower of Strength
Smithing
  • Steel
  • Arcane Blacksmith
Enchanting
  • Insightful Enchanter
  • Corpus Enchanter
Restoration
  • Regeneration
  • Necromage
  • Ward Absorb
There are two reasons I chose a Nord, 1) I'm playing as an Imperial now and want a change. 2) I'm basing the character on King Arthur and the game is set in Skyrim. One Handed over two because I want to use block. Heavy Armour because he's a knight.Smithing for upgrading my enchanted weapons. Enchanting for the main reason of making Excalibur (more on that below) and Restoration for blocking magical attacks and fighting the undead.

As for Excalibur I was thinking a Steel Sword but not sure what enchantment (shock maybe). I'm not sure about story yet, his motivation but that'll come in time.

So what are your thoughts.

Just a small thought but moving from an Imperial character to a Nord one isn't much of a leap.

No but Nords will be more responsive to me in a positive way.

Bretons are the closest to Britons culturally wise.
Maybe make him Breton?

Somehow, I think Daggerfall or Oblivion might be a better setting if you want to be King Arthur.

Maybe, but he can still pull off being the Nordic equivalent of King Arthur. On another note, I think Imperials are appropriate for the King Arthur role too, as according to some, Arthur may have been of Roman descent, which the Imperial race is inspired by.

can be any type of unenchanted sword. More often than not it's an Orcish sword for me... Not very Arthur(y) if you ask me. XD

Good idea, but Arthur had no special abilities (as a comparison, Sir Gawain's strength and prowess, I believe, waxed until 12 noon and waned afterward) like healing or any type of magical capabilities. That is why he needed Merlin.
Also, Excalibur was made of iron

If you want to start just like Author and pull a sword from a stone then there is a spot in the Reach where there is a steal sword in a stone but the place is crawling with Forsworn, there is also a skeleton hand in a little pond just out side Whiterun with a sword in it. Both are supposed to represent the story of King Author, and for a little spoiler the lover stone or the lady stone ( the one in the middle of a lake) is supposed to represent the "lady in the lake" along with the skeleton arm outside Whitrun. The steal sword in the Reach is a very good visual rep. of what is described in the legend.

If you believe it is reasonable to mix King Arthur with the Dovakhiin then anything can be possible. But for authenticity should you drop enchanting and restoration. King Arthur would have left all magic to Merlin if he had the option and I doubt he would pick it up himself. Instead, King Arthur should posses some Speech skills. I also do not see why he should not have some two-handed skills, too. He may not be Robin Hood, but I bet he knew a few things about bows and archery as well. I can even imagine him to have some lock-picking skills, which he learned in his youth being around castles and such.

I would have made him an Imperial governor over High Rock.

I believe the most accurate account of the legend makes Arthur as a ruler left from the previous ruling Roman Empire, who the native Brythonic (Briton / Breton) people embraced as their King to stand up against the invading Anglo-Saxon threat.

When the Romans came into rule over Britain, they did not so much change the cultural beliefs and ways of the locals but rather just introduced their own on top. What the Romans did was to get the local chiefs & kings and make them as governors over the people for Rome. As a result, many of the natives of Britain enjoyed the security and order obtained through Roman rule and when Rome itself began to fell and the Roman Empire declined from Britain, many still wanted their ways.

According to scholars looking to find any real evidence to support the legend, Arthur may have been a bit of a tyrant but was the only person capable of making any real resistance against the advancing Anglo-Saxons, so many of the chiefs and locals made a hero of him to gain support. It is also believed that much of the story of King Arthur was borrowed from previous Celtic stories. The Holy Grail was a recreated story from the older legend of the Cauldron of Plenty.

King Aurthur should definitely be Breton and not a Nord!

If he existed, Arthur was probably Celtic and hence closer to Breton, but if you're wanting to make it story based "hero of his people" then it's reasonable to make the PC a Nord instead.

The "Roman governor" theory is out there but some also believe he's baised on a Dal Riata (Scottish Celtic) prince named Artuir mac Aedain. Who knows really.

I'm pretty sure that, as long as you don't take it, it will also continue to level up. I've played multiple characters, so I suppose it's possible that I could have been confused, but I remember encountering it as a Steel sword and returning with the same character (again 99-percent certain) and seeing it as an Orcish sword. And yes... I've also seen it as a Dwarven sword as well...

This, I not doing a carbon copy of any particular Arthur legend. I RP so the idea of a Blacksmith or something similar becoming a hero and leading the people to freedom. So I'm thinking the Civil War as his main quest fighting with the Stormcloaks. And maybe go on a quest for powerful relic.

You should use full steel plate with the exception of a helmet. Wear a circlet instead for the King Arthur look.

Wait until you are higher level and it will be glass, which would be perfect for Excalibur.

I saw the steel stone one, it looks wicked. Take it that's an early level? Also is there any books or NPC's referencing the sword?

King Arthur was set at the time when the Romans left Britain and the Anglo-Saxons were invading. This sort of armour came centuries later.
