lagging depends on console version?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 12:00 pm

So reading through the threads, I've seen that those who report most lagging are the ones with older consoles. My question is for those who have newer versions, such as slim ps3 and such, do you have the fps issue? how badly does it affect? is it true that this only affects those who have older consoles?
No matter what the answer is, we should have answer from bethesda as PC and x360 have had, we paid 60 dollars as well, we deserve the exact same level of help and attention!

Doesn't matter what model of PS3 you're on, all of them are prone to problems.

Inb4 Drago46 shows up saying his game is fine.

I have the slim I only lag when the game auto saves. Otherwise it runs ok.

I did get some music lag once, but I saved and reloaded and that cleared it up.

I have some stuttering/audio cutout/and yet more stutter and i have a PS3 120GB (tho recently added new 500GB as 120GB is full) I do use those official Sony 7.1 headphones as well.

The game seems to work alright, but after a while, the issues will occur. My gave save is around 4MB i believe, and i use 3 save spaces, and auto save is on.

This is actually my first post (hi all...lol) and ive noticed that a lot on here are having issues with whiterun??, yet i just seem to stutter a litttle.

The game still is totally playable, but as with the Fallout series i worry when the save size will grow.

Hopefully they can get a patch out very soon to help with some of the issues we are experiencing, but as with the Fallout series (esp NV) I WONT BE HOLDING MY BREATH.

They have my money yet again, so why do they care now??

Looking at a lot of the info in this subforum, and I see a slight pattern is starting to emerge. Like others have said, it has nothing to do with what model PS3 you have. It's starting to look like those with the most problems with lag are also ones that are running long sessions (3+ hrs. at a time) without shutting the game down, therefore clearing their system's memory. Myself, and two close friends of mine having been playing since launch night/morning, and aren't having any lag issues. I personally have not reached the reported "6000kb" tipping point, but the others have, I'm VERY close to it, and none of us are lagging. We all have very limited time to play, and as such, an hour to an hour and a half are "long" sessions for us. Sure, there is no reason why you should have limit your time playing just so the game performs as expected, but at least try it before you go saying it's a bunch of bunk. Let's hope it gets fixed soon for everyone, because I know I got some vacation time ready to burn, and I'm gonna want to put some serious marathons in.

I'm playing on 80gb fat, save file currently at 6.9mb. The lag is barely noticeable, only for a few seconds when I enter a city or autosave, unless the game session is longer than 5 hours. It starts getting unbearable at that point.

I got the 160gb slim and no fps probs, it seems random. This may not be the most technical explanation but I think it could be some kinda bad luck hoodoo curse or something similar.

I have the slim and the game is no longer playable due to the frame rate issues. I think it's the 120 GB.

I only had fps problem when I had played the game nonstop for about 13 hour, the next day it was fine again without fps problem. I play on a one year old 250 GB slim.

I really think some disks are faulty...

My friends save file exceeds 7mb and he has no problems whatsoever.
My save is at 3.5mb and i have no lag... BUT, the left side of the map is broken for me.
I cannot access it in any way.
If i use a carriage from Whiterun to any of the Northwestern Cities i will arrive, but as soon as i start moving the world is gone...
Like really missing, unfinished u know... And if i try to run across the line where there's no world anymore i get a message"U can't go there" and i'm stuck. Have to reset PS at this point.
If i travel on foot from Whiterun going west everything goes fine, until i reach the point of Fort Greymoor, past that point the game starts to stutter like mad, then the world will dissapear and same stuff happens.
Tried completing the Dark Brotherhood questline, everything goes superb, untill i exit the Abandoned Shack, which lies in the western part of the world, gameworld goes missing, game starts stuttering till it hangs and have to reset PS.
Whenever i wanna go to the western parts of the map this happens, game keeps running superb as long as i don't cross the line past Fort Greymoor (vertical line across map from that point).

Tried 3 different times, 3 different new games... same stuff happens all over again past same points...
No matter how far into the game i am, no matter how large my save file is, no matter which level i am...
Nothing matters, just when i go to the western side of the map game crashes...
I even tried at the start of the game, get to Whiterun ASAP, do nothing else, and take a carriage to Soltitude or Morthal or Markarth...
Same stuff...

I personally have a 250gb slim and no lags except for autosaves, but my save files don't exceed 6mb now, so hopefully it won't start when i get to that point

This. I'm having the EXACT same stuff happening to me. 80GB PS3 here btw. SO yeah maybe 5-8 hrs and it starts to get really bad. If i turn it off for a few hours and restart, it's good as new :) maybe sime memory leaks or something?

Playing on a 2001B model (originally 250Gb) 14 months ago, upgraded 10 days ago to a Seagate Momentus XT 500 GB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s 32 MB Cache 2.5 Inch Solid State Hybrid Drive ST95005620AS-Bare Drive . Currently 270Gb free space.

Playtime: 28 hours
Save File: 3856 Kb (average)
Number of saves : 5 (currently) plus autosave on.
Internet conection: Disabled
Display : Phillips HDTV 1080p 47"
Audio : Turtle Beach PX5 (via Optical) Headset

No Lag.

Loads and saves very fast. (only minor issue on first autosave it took about 5 seconds, screen froze during that 5 sec. after that ) no issues.

Some textures look pretty poor rendered (I suppose that's as good as it gets on PS3 hardware) but in general looks amazing.

No gamebreaking glitches (yet)

Playing as hoarder (if it's not bolted down, I'll take/loot/steal/harvest it) very long walks to town to sell/stash. No issues so far.

Longest session about 10 Hours straight. No issues.

Sound simply awesome, zero issues.

I'll try to update as file gets larger.

Wait.. how the hell have you played 28 hours and you have a save file under 4000kb?

Did you not get the automatic update download?

It seems to be some disks are faulty, or people don't enough space in their HD

I've never had any other problems with any other games...

Sounds to me like the game's faulty.

Unless by disks you meant the game in which case, yeah that's a possibility.

Agreed, some disks are really faulty it seems, the second batch of Skyrim will most likely arrive at the beginning of next month won't have these problems

I really have to doubt that.

But then again I'm no expert, I just can't imagine what could actually be making this happen...

To be honest its the Xbox and PC which have more problems, so Bethesda may concentrate on them for now, but the PS3 problems are easier to fix, it's just faulty disks to me, some people got really unlucky. I don't think it has to do with save size.

I know.

Maybe because I haven't done any main quest stuff, only exploring, lots and lots of it. Or maybe because since I'm always overloaded can't run most of the time but I don't mind darn game looks georgeuos everywhere I look (of course some minor textures don't look as good as the rest but those are rare) and the music really inspires me to just admire the view.

I agree 100% with you on the save size.

But I don't think this issue is only present in some disks and not in others, I think that it's in the games code.

Somehow as you play it's building up more and more memory, It's as if everywhere you go it loads the area but when you leave it doesn't unload it, so the game starts getting laggy with too much being processed.

That's just my 2 cents.

Edit: as for the game working well and not for others. I don't know but it's not unreasonable to think that maybe some PS3s don't "activate" this bug.
Or it only happens if you join the stormcloaks ect.
