My landscape has dissapeared!

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 7:16 pm

hey i regenerated trees and static object LOD, and thats fine, but i also chose this time to click on distant land / water and clicked the "Background" option. this has seemed to delete all of my Landscape in game..
did this like the tree & static LOD generate a seperate file or folder that im meant to find and add into the skyrim Data folder???????????????

thanks!!!!!!

p.s

Luckily 99% of my worldspace so far is statics etc. only very little is actually landscape. But if there is NO file / folder to speak of to add now from generating distant land/water then its like the WIKI says that Generating LOD can sometimes flatten your worldspace.. Meaning i'll have to re go over the landscape parts again. Kinda svcks. Yes i back-up my work. but i didnt do it before this decision ALTHOUGH IVE GOT BACKUPS FROM BACK 2 DAYS AGO AND BEFORE THAT TOO.
id not lose much sleep over this as i can fix it up in a day or so but will still svck if i have to.....

OK.

Now for something odd.
what has happened is everything is fine EXCEPT, the landscape i made at the start of this mod... the little bits where i needed landscape "not statics" which is the foundation for where i began the mod this area has flattened out all landscapes.. BUT my new area.. which is a good say 10 cells away or more from the starting cell that area of landscape is still there!

so why lose just the old area cells of landscape? not too worry though i guess i can re-vamp that in next to no time, but ill just learn to leave alone that option of GENERATION for LOD..
for now at least.

next lod generation will be after ive backed up my esp to my external harddrive.

I guess the fact that the GECK & CREATION KIT both can have a nasty habbit of flattening your worldspace its best that i only generate the STATICS & TREES not the Distant Land / Water.. after all my mod is coming along too good to stuff it up just to make the MAP look good in - game!

if you save your mod after distant land creation, all your terrain will be flattened below sealevel, just dont save after creating it, but i don`t know if its possible to revert this.

ok, thanks.

all i was trying to do was without asking for help "at first" since the WORLDSPACE LOD tutorial video by AV* didnt specify to use or not to use that option i thought id try it out, as im currently trying to work out how to make my map, show not just statics but the landscape that surrounds it.. which i thought choosing this option would have worked, but apparently not hmm.

So why would distant land creation LOD flatten your land after saving? if i dont save i dont keep the new changes ive made, but the reason for doing this was to get the map to show my landscape not ruin it.

i highly recommend oscape for land mesh generation, also the oscape mesh is higher quality... (and its 10 times faster than the CK generation)

If you use the CK for Generation, don`t save it, but your LOD will be created, just close the CK after generation.

Hope this could help

the generated mesh is under Data\meshes\terrain\yourworldspace (its all the .btr files) for the purple LOD, you need to generate normals/colors with Oscape, its purple cause at this point the engine has no LOD textures.

hey, i used Oscape again and made sure that normals & colors were checked. but in game when terrain is at a distance from me it still goes blueish. i thought the nessessary files were saved into my Data folder. do i put the meshes files somewhere else?

Usually happens when you haven't unpacked the textures from Textures.bsa into the Source folder and converted them to .tga files

Well i've already got a TGA textures folder in (c:) Program Files (x86) Steam/SteamApps/Common/Source also the DDS Textures folder.
and in Skyrim/Data/textures/Terrain/Kamdoon i've got "my worldspace" files in a big list of dds files & folders for..
Land
Objects
and Trees.
Objects has:

Kamdoon.Objects.DDS
Kamdoon.Objects_n.DDS

Trees has:
Kamdoontreelod.dds

And "Land" is empty..
is that meant to be empty?

where i downloaded Oscape 2. it has:
the basic oscape files AND:
Kamdoon,fmap
Kamdoon.land
Kamdoon.raw
AND
Kamdoon.water

ive already followed the "worldspaceLOD" video.
i didnt have blue distant terrain issue before i tried to generate distant land/water in the CK.

not sure what to do exactly now.

This Thread can be deleted now..

i've fixed the issues that plagued my mod.

Basically all i did was backup everything, the Source Folder & the Skyrim Folder.
Then in the CK, i generated Normal & Diffuse Textures, re- went over and generated the Static & trees Meshes.
DIDNT SAVE THE CK AFTERWARDS.
Loaded up the game and i now have no purple/blue texture issues, And my map still shows up the LOD Statics.

although the LOD works in game, that i can see off into the distance, the map when you press "M" still wont show the Actual Landscape.
but right now nothing ive done upto this point seems to work for that. a small issue i know but id like to have everything working in my mod if thats possible.

anyways, thanks to everybody that helped me out here!
