Laptop, tablet or desktop PC?

Should I buy a laptop, tablet or desktop PC? I have a budget of about £300 - £400 pounds.

We know. It seems you tell us at least once a week.

One thing you haven't told us that's pretty important is, what is your budget?

http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/asus-transformer-pad-tf701t-is-official/ may be of interest to you. Nvidia Tegra 4 processor, Android 4.2 OS, 2560x1600 resolution 10.1" screen, $400 without the keyboard dock and $500 with it, probably out by the holidays.

Why'd you delete your whole OP?

A laptop is never the right choice for a primary device. Either for consumption or creation. If I can get by without ever owning another laptop, I'll be able to die happy.

Your budget isn't all that big, especially if it's including VAT. As such, I'd suggest a desktop as it'll allow you to stretch your dollar the furthest and upgrade it down the line as you get more money.

Going by your previous threads, however, I doubt you'll go that route, but is still my suggestion.

Desktop if you can.
Laptop if you have to.
Tablet if you can't get anything else.

Tablets are vastly superior to laptops. They actually are mobile computing, unlike laptops. Laptops are effectively desktops that are more easily moveable and a built-in UPS (with very poor buffering) and a significantly shorter lifespan and more limited capabilities.

Might I suggest the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1472491-the-community-tech-thread-no-131/ for your indecisive hesitation on finally making the plunge on a device? Or making a centralized thread for all of your own questions rather than making a new one every week on the same subject?

No, they're not. There isn't a tablet on the market today which can do what my laptop can, and that's as a developer's system.

If you're talking just email and internet access, then I'd agree, since it doesn't take much to do that.

The OP doesn't indicate what they intend to do with the machine, so offering advice isn't really going to do much.

However, if gaming is part of the equation, desktop. If it's a developer's system: laptop or desktop. If it's just to log into Facebook and write about eating sandwiches: tablet.

One day, the bridge will be removed between laptop and tablet, becoming a bit synonymous, but until that day happens, I can't be without my laptops.

I can RDP into a desktop and compile code on there. You know, where it won't take ages to compile? Unlike trying to compile it on a laptop's CPU. This has the added benefit that if it's a particularly long comilation and complex software, the compiling of the software doesn't slow down your local machine, allowing you to surf and watch 1080p youtube videos while the code compiles with no problem.

Tablets are better at consumption and desktops are better at production. The Internet makes the use of a laptop niche for anyone who knows how to remotely access another PC.
