last of the dragonborn?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 12:12 am

just want to know if anyone has the answer to this. Some previews say that the character you play as is the last of the dragonborn, while other say there will be more as in a group of them. Which one is correct?

I think that you are the last but don't quote me on it. There are also a group of people that can use dragon shout but to an extent. Only you can use dragon shouts on par with dragons in the game. Dragonborn aren't the only ones that can use shouts

the reason why im asking this is because i hope bethesda doesnt make me a doorman again like in oblivion while the real hero saves the world. if its like morrowind where the entire is based around you, then that would be awesome.

I agree, I think if I remember right that the beards are able to speak the language, and are teachers more than anything. I'm honestly thinking that they really didn't use a "shout" to kill the emperor, possibly a coverup or frame job. any thoughts?

You are the last one told in the Elder Scrolls. The Elder Scrolls end here which means the next game won't be prophecy.

Shouting is a Nordic 'skill' if I may call it that way. The Dragonborn can do more than just shouting.

The leader of the Stormcloaks, Ulfric Stormcloak, and the Grey Beards use Thu'um. It isn't the same as Dragon Shouts.

Not only that, but The Return of Alduin may just be another portent of another future event, just like the opening of Oblivion.

No. Think about it.. Tiber Septim was a Dragonborn, you are a Dragonborn. When sentient beings in TES die they are recycled and reborn since their spirits are basically magicka created from the sun (if I am correct in that). I do know that spirits are reborn, whether that is a dragon, man, mer or mudcrab. As long as Nirn has a future then Dragonborns will always come about.

so does that mean that we will see other dragonborn other than ourselves in skyrim?

Because a Nord can learn how to use a thu'um but not a dragon shout, unless he is a dragonborn. It is speaking in tongues. Think of Harry Potter and how he can speak to snakes but nobody else can.

If I recall, didn't they say that being a dragonborn can be bestowed upon anyone born, and that it's also possible to pass it on through descendents?

The point of that statement might have just been to make it clear that you don't need dragonborn ancestors to be a dragonborn though, and that not every dragonborn necessarily passes it on to their children.

that would make sense. The spirits of souls in TES lore are just magicka. The magicka is reborn. So say you take a dragon that dies and it's soul is reborn... what if it is reborn as a mortal man instead of a dragon? That has nothing to do with lineage then.

I always thought that the dragonborn are people who are destined for greatness since the gods had a hand in creating them themselves (tiber septim, nerevar, skyrim's protagonist). as for the soul of the dragonborn, i assumed that even if the dragon is powerful and divine, they are still mortal. In the end wouldn't their soul return to the gods in death just like any other mortal.

He might have been talking about the dragons though. I'm not sure if it was revealed that the dragons also use shouts yet then.

I remain skeptical until you can come up with a source. You're the only dragon born. You have to be dragon born to speak the language of dragons. If it's not the language of dragons, it's not a dragon shout. The Nords use shouts, but they aren't dragon shouts, they're Nord shouts (Thu-um).

For more about Thu-um, see the Oblivion in-game book: Children of the Sky. See here: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Children_of_the_Sky

If you read that, you'll notice that the magical powers of the Nordic voice are described as being sort of like the spells of Oblivion, though with some exceptions. They can sharpen swords, push enemies away, make them afraid, etc. I suppose they can also cast charm spells, detect life spells, invisibility spells, and some other useful spells too. And best of all, it's all done with the voice so that they can conserve their magicka for healing purposes.

Dragon shouts are different. With dragon shouts, you can encase your enemies in ice, breathe fire, or call down a bolt of lightning to shock your enemies. :shocking:

Hopefully, the difference between the two is now clear. Dragon shouts are on a whole different level altogether.

It's a fact that was stated. I'm not going to bother trying to look it up, because it was a long time ago. But it's a fact. Like I said, he could have been talking about dragons though.

i remember that i read that a dragon's battle is like a debate where their language is that of power. so he could have been referring to the fights with dragons.
