Layout of Towers... I.n.c.o.n.v.e.n.i.e.n.t

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 7:01 pm

Please tell me why the towers have 2 floors that don't connect... If I have an enchanting/alchemy tower, I'm obviously doing work and would like to be efficient. Running upstairs to get too the 2nd floor isn't what I call efficient. The rooms are small enough as is, and having a bunch of doors everywhere looks bad.

What they should have done was had the bottom floor of the tower as a storage room with a "Spiral staircase" going to the second floor which would be the actual enchanting room. Also the towers should only have 1 door at the bottom level.

Another bad design is that a lot of role players may not like that fact that the enchanting room is directly connected to the childrens room. Yeahh that's great for them sleeping at night, listening to potions and cauldrons bubbling and seeing troll skulls and daedra hearts laying out.

P.s Bethesda - People would love your games/DLC if you didn't TRY to limit them on everything. You just HAD to make each wing have 3 seperate options, instead of picking what each wing is out of a list of options. Maybe some people would like to have an armory with kitchen + Green house. trophy room is stupid and storage is pointless. Little advice for next time, instead of over thinking everything, just make things more simple, and in return people will have more options and be happier overall.

I agree. I think they really messed up the layout of the whole house. I also do not understand why the alchemy tower is even an option when they cram one in your main house. The house is cool but I don't get why it is so impractical. It has no walls around the exterior for protection, a forge in a unventilated basemant, small and awkward rooms, and way to much stuff crammed in the house.

I'm not complaining but I feel like there is no customization what-so-ever of the houses.

Same I agree and I'm not complaining either, anything that adds more aspects to a game that i've played over and over again I will obviously buy and enjoy. and for 5 bucks I can't complain. I just wish that they would sit down and think what they would wan't if "They" were playing, they probably have to many big group discussions about design and nothing gets accepted so they get stuck wasting time and putting out the most basic stuff they can. Let's face it, big business is just like politics.

I also have a feeling they don't play test dlc before they release, I may be wrong but I've notice quit a few bugs in both Dawnguard and now Hearthfire. Dawnguard had some MAJOR issues that rendered the file unplayable unless I wanted to give up on dawnguard haha. and Hearthfire didn't have big issues really, except it added a lot of "Little" glitches everywhere. I'm finding inventory glitches, dialogue glitches, clipping/loading glitches, lag glitches. Just a ton of stuff that has never happened before.

oo and just a interesting idea that I would've done is atleast made each house different per plot of land. Maybe one of the houses could've been built into the side of a mountain or something. They need to just think outside of the box, it's abstract and crazy ideas that get chiseled down into master pieces. Not strict creation guidelines and rules for designers. Let them use their own ideas, just make sure they stick to the time frame haha.

I found the layer of towers odd too but not to the point it annoys me. In fact is anyone is using ALL theses containers? I just use one that is beside the alchemy lab and that's that so in the end the layout just seem "weird" but not inconvenient.

As for the "usefulness" of an alchemy tower... I think it's just to add more personality to your house. Pretty much as I did build the library. It's not like it is useful, I'd be better off with the kitchen as far as "usefulness" is concerned.

As for your point about being limited in the selection of wings, I do agree with you it is dissapointing but I am guessing the reason behind it is that everything is "fixed", you cannot move furniture around. So basically they would have to redesign every wing 3 times making the DLC potentially bigger (and buggier!) That's my guess anyway but still dissapointing.

But in the end, I am very satisfied with this DLC. For a very little amout of $$$ I feel like it allows you to have a very more personal base of operation than the house that were already available. It might not be "customization heaven" but it feels personal enough to make you feel like this is "your" home.

I thought the towers were completely lame. I was expecting a huge spiral case tower where I could display all my oddities. Instead I get a tower the size of a walk-in closet and not to mention having to walk out and going up the stairs to reach the next level.

The size of the house is decent, can't really complain but all the room additions feel so small and cramped. For 5 bucks, it's worth the money, I'd rather play this than have a burger for lunch.

I'm not sure about that.. The modding community has made moveable furniture since Oblivion.. back then you used to drop an item named after furniture like "Bed" and activate it while croutching to turn it into a static object.. It was not fun.. The newer "house building mods" You get to see the object infront of you and use controlls to move and angle them.

Toilets don't exist! haha People have doing business in buckets and throwing it out the window into the streets for a long time! Earliest sanitation system I can think of was the greeks. So next time your jumping in the water ways in Whiterun, you might wan't to think twice ;)

The towers are essentially walk in closets. I personally prefer the all porch combination.

I don't mind the fixed options because I don't want to spend weeks trying to build my house. It's bad enough I'm doing this with the 3 fixed options per wing. :P

Despite this, and a few issues, it's still an awesome add-on. I've always wanted to live in Riverwood and this is now the best thing to my original wish, since the house is mine and I built it.

Now, if only we had some poison to buy to rid those pesky skeevers from living in it.

They are also good to provide access onto the roof.

I sometimes find my housecarl standing up there

lmao. I've used the roofs as a quick exit, instead of going back in and having 2x the loading times when I can just jump my way down.

I don't mind it a bit.

But then again, my characters aren't lazy and can run from one floor to the other without trouble.

:D

lmao

But in all seriousness, I think the layout of the towers is fine. That the floors are connected inside the Main House and not in the tower itself doesn't bother me a bit.

Indeed. Its a minor inconvenience at best. Not at all worth that large wall of text the op typed IMO.
