Left-handed mod

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 4:21 pm

One thing that I was hoping to do in Skyrim (and that someone said would be possible at PAX Prime) was fight left-handed: that is, not only to equip weapons in the left hand, but also to equip shields or bows in the right hand.

Since this obviously didn't happen in the official release, how hard would it be to create a mod that enables one to equip shields, bows, or torches in either hand?

This would not allow you to equip your shield differently though.

It sounds like it might be doable, but its hard to tell exactly without having seen the new construction set.

Looking inside Skyrim.esm with http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=165, there appear to be EQUP records such as "LeftHand" and "Shield" (which points to "LeftHand"), so it may be quite possible to edit this stuff. How the animations should be handled, however, is probably an entirely different and more difficult problem.

Hmm. In the absence of full ambidexterity, how hard would it be to insert an option to choose your hand preference and mirror everything about your character if you choose left-handed? (E.g. if you choose left-handed, you have to equip shields and torches to the right hand)?

P.S. This seems like a REQ or an IDEA, and I see that requests and ideas are generally marked as such; can the title be changed to reflect that?
