I've gotten all the way to the end of the Capture Windhelm quest and no matter what I do...General Tullius and Legatte Rikke won't follow me into the Palace of Kings to kill Ulfric Stormcloak. Everytime I go in the door...my character just sheathes his sword and just stands there. I can't move or do anything. I've tried everything from waiting for 20 minutes, to hitting Legatte Rikke and General Tullius, to Fus-Ro-Dah-ing them closer to the door. NOTHING WORKS.

Looked up this glitch on UESP and there doesn't seem to be any sort of workaround. Maybe reloading a save from before you even started the quest "Battle for Windhelm" and see if that helps at all?

I may be out of luck. I did pretty well with bugs until recently. I've had two major bugs in the past 3 days that have stopped me from completing a questline.

Well, I am going to go back to a previous save and join the Stormcloaks now. Screw the Imperials!

when your there, let them finish their 'speech' without skipping the dialog. seems to work. same thing can happen on the storm cloaks side. dont enter the door before they do when you get to it, this can sometimes make them not advance as well. like they get stuck outside the door waiting for you.

sometimes, you can make it all the way to the finial chamber and they will just 'magically appear' in the room.
