Legend of Zelda timeline finally revealed

Post » Thu Sep 20, 2012 1:45 pm

For any fans of the Legend of Zelda series, the timeline is one of the most confusing and debated issues to date since nobody knew when each game would take place. However, it seems the timeline has just been officially stated as so:

All I have to say is hopefully the next game won't crash the timeline.

The games were never made with a timeline in mind anyway, they probably fit them into one after so the fans would stop debating pointless things.

Skyward Sword kind of changes that though. It felt like a prequel to all the other games.

Uh, some of them were very specific about which games they followed. Take Majora's Mask for instance. That followed Ocarina of Time. As did Wind Waker. One of the major plot points in Wind Waker dealt with OoT.

...And they still {beep} it up :swear: ! When in the hell does Ganon kill Link in OoT----Nintendo get away from that train of thought it don't make since. There's only two timelines.

Timeline A: Link goes back in time as a child and the events there lead up to WInd Waker.

Timeline B: Link's an advlt and these events lead up to Twilight Princess.

There is no C! No Link fails unless the owner of Nintendo can't beat his own games.

While it's probably true that there was no timeline early on, at least half of the games show very obvious signs that chronology was considered. Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, Skyward Sword, etc., while others like A Link to the Past, Minish Cap and Twilight Princess are much more subtle in their references.

Either way, I think it's pretty neat even though I don't concern myself with it too much. Still, stumbling across any connections in-game is always exciting, especially when they aren't right there in your face.

Majora's Mask was a sequel. I'm saying the series wasn't meant to fit into one big timeline like this.

Twilight Princess does mention something about Ocarina of Time a couple times, so I wouldn't say it is way out there by itself.
