Legendary Dragon. Tips

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 1:22 pm

Hello. Last night I battled my first Legendary Dragon, and they can be quite difficult unless you know how to defeat them. So I have made this thread to share some of my tips, and for you guys to share yours too, so that players who have yet to find one can learn how to kill it.

The strategy I used was able to kill the beast in less than one minute.
What I used:
Enhanced Dwarven Crossbow with Steel Bolts.
Full Daedric Armor.

Followers:
Serana.
and I called in Odhaviig. Durneviir would work too.

Combat:
I stayed back with my crossbow and unleashed bolts at it, while Serana drained its magika and Odhaviing burnt it.

hope this helps those who havnt killed one yet, and if you have some strategies that worked for you too, dont be shy and post them!

When I fought one, it was no different than fighting any other dragon. My character used Dragonrend, Dragonbane, Spellbreaker and 70% natural magic resist (30% Magic Resist perk, 15% Agent of Mara perk, 25% Lord's Stone).

except they are way more powerful, capable of killing you with one bite, and can use the drain life shout.

I usually block their shouts with Wards. For some reason in my game I can get a little stunned but I don't take damage from shouts so long as I have a good ward in front of me.
Spellbreaker is great for that.

I just treat them the same way I treat any dragon.... I get them on the dirt and stay by their hind quarters, this way you avoid the bite and the tail smash all they can do is hit you with their wing ( which doesn't cause too much damage ) and hack away at it. It's best to have Dragon rend ready just in case they do manage to take flight and followers to distract the dragon for you. You can avoid it's Drain vitality shout by dodging it, it takes pretty good timing and quick reflexes ( or slow time shout ) but you can avoid the in coming shout, the legendary dragons are pretty much the same as the normal dragons just the difference is that the legendary dragons are tougher.

I don't find them to be any tougher than revered dragons. In fact, I like fighting revered dragon more because they have such a distinctive look and coloring.

Like others are saying... I just fight them the same way I fight any dragon.
Attack, heal, attack, heal.

They have a lot of HP, but otherwise didn't seem to be any big problem.

Avoid the front, avoid the back, bring it down fast and wade in like a true nord.

Daedric bow, conjure dragon chew toy and carve a piece out of their [censored]. Collect soul. Oh and that's if they don't run away from me, I always have to chase down a dragon.

i suppose if you find it that difficult you can always lower the combat difficulty. lol.
unless youve got it on novice already then yea not really feasible.

dragons are always running away from me too , its a lil annoying sometimes.

Its funny to think that I'm on master level too, and they see me and say "no way, I'm outta here"

As dragons circle around then attacking from the air they can easy be distracted by others and attack them instead.
Higher chance of this happens if you use long time killing them.

I've actually had them run away from me, they didn't want to die.

Also they will just take off, and I mean take off, not attack anything, you see them gain altitude and fly away, even after shooting at them.

Dragons have a bad habit of ignoring me to attack a goat instead.

There's 'ambience' dragons, and there's dragons that want a piece of your butt-armour...

It doesn't matter what you do, some of those 'ambience' ones will circle around with an immunity to dragonrend and bows and magic and then fly off at will...generally when you need that last dragon soul for a shout or some bones or scale for armour....they know, man, they just know....
