Yes well I heard that they were more frequent once you reached like level 70, and being level 81 you would think that would make them even more frequent. As in as frequent as Ancient Dragons were before the dlc

It would seem that different games ( yours and mine ) experience different random spawn rates. I'm Lv.81 and I hardly ever see any normal dragons any more, just Revered and Legendary. The status of the vanilla game also dictates the amount of these encounters, if you have finished Skyrims main quest then the dragon encounters should have slackened resulting in the rare random dragon encounters to become even more rare. Or if your mid way through Skrims main quest then the skies should be blacked out with the number of dragons appearing.
Try doing a dragon roost run. Visit every spot that has a dragon guarding a word wall, this should help with your legendary dragon hunting. It's a spot that continually spawns dragons so you chances of getting a legendary dragon there are greater then out roaming the map.

yeah I forgot about that! That's how I got the wild werewolves to kick in, I did a 30 day wait in my home. Then 2 days after I bumped into my first set of wild werewolves after 60+ hours of game play.( on Dawngurd )
Try a 30 day wait in your home and see if it resets the spawns out on the map.

for starters there is an achievment for killing one.
Also i am at the point were Ancients are getting too easy. Fighting an Ancient dragon right now, is just like fighting a normal dragon at level 12ish

Are you playing on a difficulty level below Adept? If so you will have to change the difficulty level.

The revered and legendary flying geckos better pack a wallop, because right now in the vanilla game I can go thru ancient dragons - and even Alduin - like a cuisinart. Seriously, they're no challenge whatsoever.

This would be me. Since loading Dawnguard I've on encountered two dragons and both were at the same time.

The Revered Geckos are actually pretty tough. Their Fire Breath can nearly kill you instantly. Have yet to run into a Legendary Dragon, but if I do it will be the ultimate fight.

I' ve gotten Legendary and recently had a Revered. I had two followers with the Revered so it wasn't as tough as I thought. We'll see when I am with only one. I anticipate trouble.

Incorrect, difficulty only has a bearing on the amount of armor, health, and damage something does. Not the frequency of appearance. but to help the OP, like all thing's in skyrim. It seems that every play-through and person that plays it has a different spawn rate for things and experience. I believe this is actually what Tod intended
