Legitimate Reputation Glitch? - Really upset about this

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 5:14 am

Hey there, I have a bit of an odd and VERY frusterating circumstance. I was doing the Heartbreak by the Number quest for Cass, and I got the part where I ahd to kill the Alice girl at the Crimson Carvan company. I entered the barracks and instantly was aproached by an NCR ranger, he thanked me for my service with the NCR and gave me an emgergancy radio. I was very pleased with this because I plan to side with the NCR in the endgame. However after I killed Alice and left (Note none of the guards retaliated me except the merchant outside...weird.) after about an hour I left via the East freeside gate where the same Ranger came running at me shooting. I of course killed him in self defence and fast travelled to the New Vegas Med clinic. I assume it was at this point I failed the quest to talk to the Boomers (Given by the NCR ambassidor) and the "Don't Tread on the Bear!" quest, however NO notifcation popped up besides "NCR Infamy gained :(" I went on my way unware the NCR had more or less marked me for death. After 20 minutes and several overwitten game saves I was approached by 3 rangers telling me I have 3 days before I get my ass whooped.

At this point I relized I have the "Merciful Thug" repuation with the NCR, had failed the two quests and was going to be shot on site in all NCR territory. Why did I lose so much karma for killing a ranger who came at me first? And what can I do to improve my reputation? On other forums people have posted that once you fail the "Don't tread on the bear!" quest you can't do anything. Which REALLY pisses me off seeing as I was really intersted in doing work for NCR.

I've been a long time fan of Bethesda's work. The Elder Scrolls and Fallout games have been my favurite games of the last decade and I played and loved all of them. I've never really been upset about any hiccups in any of the games until now. All I want is to finish the game siding with the NCR, which is going to be impossible if I am going to be assualted everywhere I go. Can someone give me some advice on this? Bethesda I'm pretty dissapointed in this, you seem to have let some of your fans down, most a lot more then me. You make phenominal games and I consider you one of if not, the best software company out there...but this really bugs me, regardless you haven't lost this fan yet. Viable advice would be great. I'm thinking of picking up an NCR outfit and trying sneak passed the guards and talk to the Ambassidor...but now I won't get to finish two quests I really wanted to do. FML.

As far as the NCR knows at that point, Allice is a legit businesswoman, what I did and what is considered the "good" way is finding evidence from her and the van graffes and using that to get the NCR to deal with them nationwide OMG SPOILERZ (this doesn't exactly solve your problem though)

How did you do that / complete that quest? I may be able to get the evidence the show it to someone. I'm also trying to get a pardon from the NCR, but since they already gave me one when I got the Strip I don't think I can get another. I don't even know why I got a pardon I've helped the NCR from day one. I've gotten hold of an NCR disguise and am trying to find quests or jobs but no-one has any...

I tried siding with the NCR too but there's too many of them and I eventually had your problem do to other quests pissing them off. I ended up going to Hoover and slaughtering them all. It seemed to make the game run smoother.

my advice is dont take the easy way out.

I like the way they did this.

At this time you gave no proof, so you might as well be killing the president.

If you would have brought eveidence to the ranger up in Mojave outpost he would have told the NCR and they would have them dealt with.

He tells you do not kill them, and to let the NCR deal with them.

Next time, try to weigh what will happen. This is a game that put you in uncomfortable posistions, don't always choose the easy way out.

O, and if your wearing a disquise (You need to make sure your not wearing these when wandering) Your reputation goes nuetral with all groups, even if you were good with them.

I work with the NCR, im a 1st Recon Sniper, and not once have i had problems with them, cause i try not to piss them off, if anything deals with them, i find a peaceful way to solve it.

Isn't it obvious? The whole thing was a setup. The NCR Emergency Radio isn't to help you, it's a tracking device! The "Ranger" who gave it to you wasn't a Ranger at all, he was an anti-NCR insurgent in the region trying to sabotage the NCR-affiliated Crimson Caravan. You fell right into the trap when you took the mission to assassinate McLafferty. Now the Rangers have been framed for assassinating an NCR caravan manager, and they've pinned the blame on you! Meanwhile the real culprit runs free.

The solution is simple: just kill everyone.

This conspiracy is obviously the most logical option. Get a 50. cal and let the heads roll. Spare NO ONE.

First, I have a bond with my companion, she helped me kill Benny, I helped her kill Alice. We work as a team first and foremost. Secondly I was on "accepted" terms with the NCR, killing the chick that runs Crimson Carivan's shoulnd't have made a random Ranger come after me, I looked into it and that Ranger is ony there to give me the radio for being on good terms with the NCR, killing Alice watshernuts should not have upset the NCR that much. And it wasn't an imeediate reaction, he only came back after me after about 20-30 minutes of play (After I went and killed everyone at Van Graff). Does anyone know if doing the quest outside of Camp Searchlight with the NCR dogtags will give me good rep or the one at Helios one? And can I still work for the NCR with the two failed quests? Like will I be able to go to the Boomers even though the NCR quest is failed then pick up with the next quest given from the embassy?

In the Event that the NCR turns their back on me, I will make a point of killing every officer, trooper, ranger, military policeman and anyone even remotelty associated them, then siding with my old friends, the Brotherhood of Steel.
