Let's Talk About Sound

Post » Sun Aug 19, 2012 9:48 am

So, today I got myself a 360 and another copy of Skyrim. I simply couldn't wait for Dawnguard anymore. This time I decide to change it up a little and play with the music off. I love the soundtrack of Skyrim. I absolutely love it's brilliant music, particularly the tunes sung by the bards (I maaaay have Age of Aggression on my iPod.) With the music off though, I'm really noticing a lot of the lovely sounds of Skyrim. The sound of water dripping or lakes running. Woodpeckers in the forest. The little pitter pat of spiderfeet across cave floors. It's all fantastic stuff. Skyrim is a fantastic game, and I encourage anyone who wants to play through it and is getting bored to turn the music down and really listen to the world. It's incredible.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Many people turn off the music. Its great for immersion of the game and good for rp.

Try turning out all of lights in the room, make it nice and dark with no music. It really makes it seem more alive.

I have a nice turtle beach headset hooked up with surround sound, so I hear all of these sounds plus the music.

LOL, the first thing I do in every game is turn the music down. With the music down to about 25% and ambient sound up all the way, I don't miss a thing AND I still get a nice soundtrack. :)

Some of the sound fx really blows though. The sound a zombie makes when turning to ash really bugs me. Now it will bug you too because you'll notice it from now on if you haven't yet. That and mercer frey's voice.

No doubt about that, Skyrim has the best environment sound and music game I ever played.
I only turn on the music when fighting dragons, damn I love it! "Dovakiin.. dovakiin.."

I turn off my music, because I don't like the in-game music, after a while it gets tedious and annoying (OMG I SAID IT!!!). During the times when I may WANT to break immersion, I play other music. For example running through a Nordic crypt and slaughtering undead while listening to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwI1KIM2yJc is both hilarious and amazing. So yeah I admit it... I listen to reggae while playing Skyrim. :D

I prefer beauty over RP, so I like to have the music on a lot. It can really make the game nice.

Try using one of those fancy turtle beach headsets. I have one of the less expensive ones and you can hear everything! The overall sound effects are amplified. You can hear a bears little growl or groan way in the distant. It helps you get the jump on them.
