Letters of inheritance?

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 8:07 pm

Ok so I have been wondering this, every time I get a "Letter of inheritance" saying so and so was a family member and I get gold from them, why does this happen?

I have never been married so not like I have some long lost relative or whatever and sometimes I don't even remember these people yet can get 300gold or more sometimes.

So why do we get this? What triggers it?
Also....is it bad if on a blood high I killed a courier?

When your follower dies, sometimes you get one.

It's kind of sad when you realize that the only way your follower can die is if you accidentally kill them with friendly fire.

I believe this happens when a certain "friendship" meter gets checked in a character like if you help them with something or they act friendly their disposition increases like in oblivion except its hidden if you mean like what happens when the characters wife/husband dies then it might just be a bug.

i think it's cause you got the npc's disposion up high enough towards you and they die, i happened to me first after the general good seller died he was hostile to me and i think my follower killed him

That's why I'm using a mod that actually makes them killable by NPCs. Now it's not my fault. :P

Quite a few games and I just got my first letter. I had helped clear out a mine for a nice Orc and he made me kin. Later, I was happy to see the Courier thinking I was going to get a letter from a friend but then I get that letter. I was sad. :(

awww very sad to hear that looks like I need to stop going into doing a quest or helping someone without a 2nd glance at them and really form a bond...or you know...atleast learn their names LOL
Anyone ever get a letter, see who died than go back to where you last saw that person just to see if they REALLY were removed from the game? I also can't help but wonder did they REALLY get killed by someone or was it just a scripted/random event that they just "liked" you to much kinda thing and than the AI is told to go away?XD

I got a letter of inheritance after killing the Thalmor leader in Markarth. I had just done a quest where I had to find Talos amulets so this must have made him my friend.

I gave a beggar in Riften 1 piece of gold... I then proceeded to slaughter all the guards there and my companion shot the beggar in the head... I got 50 gold from his death...

I got one for the Orc blacksmith lady in Markath, and also for Ria the Companion - who for some reason has just decided to reappear in my game after being out of it for a while (maybe it's an undead version of Ria).

I got that one too. The amusing thing is that after I handed him the amulet, I slipped a frenzy potion into his pocket and watched as his own bodyguards chopped him up (then I took the amulet back). Imagine my surprise when I read that inheritance letter! Kinda like the poor half-wit kid in Ivarstead. If he had known I was going to cut his head off and throw his body over the waterfall, he might have named someone else as his beneficiary.

I have to know how to do that now XD I never knew slipping a potion into pocket of someone would have it activate.

Looks like I need to become friends with more ppl....than go on a killing spree

You give the potion as a 'gift' when pickpocketing - I do it often with paralysis poisons.

Or if they get caught in the crossfire.

This happened to me just earlier today. I had a courier deliver a letter saying I inherited 100 gold from Angrenor Once-Honored... Last before that I saw him in Windhelm, a beggar, I gave him a gold piece.

So I went back to Windhelm and used Detect Life, and I see a body below the city map... WTF?

Once I inherited 100 gold from a poor sod who was killed at Dragonbridge by a random dragon. I chopped wood for the guy and he names me in his will. I feel bad for his kin. ;)
