Letting your physical health go to waste.

I saw on TMZ a few days ago a picture of Chuck Norris, overweight and a SHAVED BEARD! He really let himself go. My brother and I were watching it and a thought clicked in my head. When was the last time I did push ups? In high school JROTC? When was the last time I played a 1-on-1 game of basketball? 2009-ish? So I said to my brother, "Dude, let's go play some basketball tomorrow. I don't want to end up like Chuck Norris."

So we go to a public court near Lake Eloa and after about five minutes I'm gasping for air. Big time gasping, and cramping. My brother has always been generally out of shape since like 12 years old. He's 30 now and I'm approaching it. He was still up for more, but I was done.

Just as a prelude, I spent about 3 years of training just specifically related to increasing my vertical jump. I even spent $500.00 on a training kit (DVD's and crap) just to learn more on how to do it. It helped some but I never reached the 50" vertical like it claimed. But after lot's of hard training I did eventually dunk a basketball at 10' regulation height. It's an amazing adrenaline rush feeling. But I couldn't do that on that day I played against my brother.

I got more involved in life situations. I guess I'm a man now  . But I lost my touch. I have been drinking about 5-7 beers/Twisted Teas each week. I have gained about 18 lbs. It hurts my ankles and knees to kneel down to turn on a power strip, I make a grunting "ugh" noise. I really let myself go.

Has it happened to you yet?
