Level 35 cap?

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 8:13 am

I've been reading everywhere that the level cap for Skyrim is 50, has this changed? My character has reached level 35 and now is unable to progress any further. The problem is that I'm probably only half way through the game, with guild quests only just started and 2 cities still unvisited.

Is this a bug or is the current level cap only 35?

The level cap is 81, as you can get all your skills to level 100. hope this helps

Well that's good news that the cap is high, but bad news that I'm somehow stuck at 35. Out of interest, have you all made it past 35 yet?

according to Tod Howard the lvl cap is somewhere around 75 and creatures/dungeons stop lvling with you around lvl 50... try lvling different skills and see if that adds to your exp/lvl... i dont personally know because my character is only lvl 27 and going strong...

My post is redundant as soon as i posted it because other people already answered...

Todd said 75 is only an estimate. the cap in this game is whenever all skills reach 100

I thought there was no level cap, but would take forever to progress? Or am I greatly mistaken? lol

There's no hardcoded level cap - but once a skill reaches 100 you cannot use that skill to gain more levels. Once all skills are 100, then you won't be able to level any more. That apparently coincides with level 81.
.. and a personal pet peeve: Why the lol at the end? Was it really that funny?

While we all have heard the cap is either 50, 70, 75, 81, or 100, has anyone actually gone beyond 35 yet? While I also read a dev team member say it was 50, and we have heard from others that it's higher, I'm wondering if this bug is affecting anyone else, or possibly if they decided to nerf the level cap before release and make it higher with DLC. On the PC btw.

Any suggestions on how to unstick it?

Are you still improving your skills? You only gain levels from improving your skills.

Yeah I'm 43, I heard that the cap was 80, but leveling slows after 50.

I guess you have raised your most used skills to 100, say one hand weapon, heavy armor and block, then you have raised a skill to 100 you can not raise it anymore so you will not level up using them, however if you do other things like healing, picking locks or smiting you raise this skill and this will help you level up.

One warning, don't power train skills you don't use to help you just to gain level as this will make you weaker against leveled enemies.
Say you make a lot of potions and sell, however if you use them for buffs and poisons it will help you.

Ok fixed the problem. Levelling my skills was difficult, as I had capped the training for that level, and as well as the main XP bar not moving, nor were any of the other skills I was trying to level (eg. lockpicking), or if they were, it was so slow and minute that I couldn't see it move. However, I just completed a quest that granted me some bonus skills to heavy armour, and that seems to have unstuck my stills. Now I'm once again levelling at a standard rate, and have gained half a level already since my last post.

Good to hear that the theoretical level is 81. Would have been nice if they could have balanced it out to an even number :P

The cap is supposed to be 81, but after playing around a bit more with the console I actually managed to get to 90. I'm not sure what exactly caused this, but I suspect it has something to do with the showracemenu- command after maxing all skills.

There is no hard level cap, but after you max out all your skills to 100, you can't gain any more character levels. That should happen somewhere around 70-80, not 50.

Progression gets gradually slower and slower after the first couple of levels, but as long as your skills are increasing you are still making progress toward your next character level.

That's up to you. When I play a thief, I do it because I enjoy sneaking and thieving.

No, then you concentrate on more pickpocketing & sneak attacks. For double skill progression, try sneak attack with bound weapons.
