Level Up Issue

Post » Sat Dec 11, 2010 8:48 pm

Hello, I just leveled up last night from lvl2 to 3 and had a rather annoying problem. It did as it usually does upon leveling up until it SHOULD have gone to the "select 1 new perk" screen, but didn't, and instead exited after the skill select screen. Do they not let you take a new perk at level 3 or something? Don't know if it matters, but the perk I took upon reaching level 2 was Intense Training, and I put the stat point in Luck to bring it to 6.

On a lighter note I am happy to report I don't have any issues on Win 7 64-bit. Besides this one. Thanks!

As far as I know, you can only gain a perk on even levels. Not every level like in Fallout 3.

It's like F1 and F2. Perks every other 3 levels. If you want perks at every level, theres a mod out at New Vegas Nexus.

Actually, Itimmeh, it is every 2 levels. According to the Strategy guide, it lists new perks every 2 levels up to level 28.

So i also assume that you cannot choose traits that you didn't choose back in previous levels?

Such as at level 2, i only have 5 or so NEW traits to choose, and not the ones back from when i was in the Doc's room. ie, i couldn't choose "Small frame" at level 2 as it was only available back when i was in the Docs room.

Is this correct? Thus each level up i have a 1 shot chance at choosing the traits available at that time?

Traits can only be picked when you're creating a character, and tend to have positive and negative effects to balance each other out. They're just aspects of your character, like "Four Eyes," which gives you a -1 to Per when you're not wearing glasses and a +1 when you are.

Perks are purely bonuses, and you can always pick any perk from any level once it's available (ie when all the pre-reqs are met). So you can pick a level 2 perk at level 28, if you want, so long as you meet its other requirements.

It does tell you "in-game" that you only gain perks every 2 levels... thought I would point that out...

Ahhh, thankyou for pointing out the difference between "Traits" and "Perks" for me. Perhaps my glasses weren't on IRL and my perception was down -1.

But now it seems i have to restart my toon as i now do not want "Good Natured" anymore knowing this now, and will instead me choosing "Small Frame"

At least im not too far into the game.
