LFG UI Tool

Post » Tue Dec 24, 2013 4:41 am

It will be cool if one hit a key and select what of actions one want to do (Help with quests, raids, taking over keeps, black ops missions, etc) in a UI window. The megasever will look at the queue and try to match one up with friends/ guild(s) of yours, strangers. That way one does not need to spam the chat window with "looking for group text," the system will be "smart" enough to do that for u based want you have selected in the UI window and friends / guild data on your account / char. I do not mean by spamming the chat window, but by looking at the queue and asking if want to join a group based on what one has selected.

What does others think of a UI tool like this?

There's a tool like this in Swtor and it's awful, nobody uses it, not saying ZOS couldn't make a decent one, but I think the only thing we need a grouping tool for is dungeons, if I wanted to do quests with someone, I'd ask friends, guilds, or ask in chat once or twice, if nobody responds then I'll assume nobody wants to do these, which is fine.
So it might be a nice little addition, but I would never use it.

I think there is some planned. It is interesting if such LFG tool will match players on one shard only or may be it could match the whole megaserver, in such case I think any team could be matched in few seconds.

Actually players might do this on their own (with help of modders) by using special channel where actually not chatting between people happens but LFG tool broadcast and matches teams.

But then why we would need to group / guild?

I was just thinking of 200+ people in a chat window all talking at once -- a message can be easy get lost and or break the flow of the talk in the chat window.

Based on that Demo they did over the summer there will be a LFG tool. It won't be auto group or auto teleport like WoW. Its simply an interface where you can find others from a list based on your search criteria to play with and group with.

Yeh that's true, I think the point Pangscar made is pretty good, just having criteria for people to set themselves, would be a nice addition.

To tell the truth m8, I rather spam the chat with LF1M or LFG then using a GF finder. I rather talk with the person or persons that I'm about to be invited or invite myself..

It also creates a better Community, where its important to have friends outside your Guild.

If one wants to use the chat to do that, that is fine. From my experience, I do talk in chat and answer questions about the game or just "hang out" When ask for help or ask someone / anyone in the channel to join in a quest or a PVP raid, most of the time I get no reply. Therefore, an UI tool will be better to find people. Most of the time, I will get strangers anyways  The UI tool is just an option to use.

i think all mmo games should have a LFG option otherwise you will get nothing but endless chat spam. it also reduces the requirement to join a guild which i also consider good. players should want to join a guild they should not feel forced to do it. this was a major problem with wow. being in a high level guild gave people additional perks. this made it a requirement almost to be in a guild and also made starting new guilds much more difficult.

I just thinking of ideas that might improve the game. I am willing to talk about the idea. One does not *have* to use the said tool, but just an option for those of us who have a hard time in finding groups and do not understand how a MMO works.

opps! >_> There is a down side of using a LFG tool, one does talk with people thus have a lower chance of making friends, but on the other paw, it helps to from groups faster. Hopefully the group slow down enough to talk and makes friends that way. Sadly, people are to big of hurry "to do" the content with out "enjoying" the content. Old saying, take the time to smell the roses once in a while....

100% agree!

LFG tool certainly isn't an immersion breaker... for me anyways, i think that's taking it all a bit far...

of course it is possible, but the trend with these LFG tool style groups is... join, maybe say hello, run a dungeon, then say thanks and leave...rinse and repeat...

Start a group by conversing in chat and in most cases you are already talking before you have even got to the dungeon.

this is very true but i have a feeling dungeon runs will not be like they are in other games. in a game like wow everyone knew their roll simply by what character they were and it played out the same every time. tank runs in, rounds everything up, AoE mobs down. get to boss and kill. dont know mechanics? vote kick. that game has also been out forever though so people just expected that every new character was an alt and not a new player

i think the game will play much differently here. what i would like from the LFG is nothing more than actually being grouped. i dont want instant teleportation to dungeons like in other games. make us walk there.

aye my thoughts exactly on all points! this is a little off topic, but i hope there is more tactical PVE play in this game than the boring old AoE bombing mobs over and over and over again. As you mentioned i am sure there is, but i hope too see people who try this to be demolished by the mobs due to the different approach to "tanking" this game is taking.

agreed. i also plan to use the friends list much more in this game as i feel having skilled allies will be far more important than in previous mmo games

The QuakeCon footage shows all this pretty clearly. I figure it must link you outside of your instanced little chunk of the world because it deals with places outside of the chunk of land you are in. And as near as I can tell it is traveling between those rejoins that gets you re-sorted by the mega server.

And yea ESO plays exactly like this:
>open lfg tool
>select dungeon and role
>pick people off the list and invite to group
>teleport to known WayShrine near destination and meet up with group
>go kill stuff with them.
