Life Expectancy in Tamriel and on Nirn?

Post » Mon Feb 11, 2013 3:31 am

The reason I ask is because when speaking to Sondas Drenim, he says ""This mine is only a few years old, but I've been digging up ore for over a century."

I was under the impression that the average lifetime on Nirn would be comparable to that in real life until speaking with Sondas. So it begs the question, how long do people live on Nirn?

Any input would be much appreciated.

All apologies if this is supposed to be in the Lore or Series forums! I wasn't sure.

Elves can live longer than 300 years. Some even higher than that.

Men...well. Like regular humans.

I believe that dark elves live a very long life. Perhaps at least 100 years. There wasn't much in the game that told me this, I just had to piece two and two together from talking to dark elves.

Sinderion is an oddity. His journal is written 58 years after Oblivion and he didn't seem young back then. Maybe high elves live a long time also.

Humans have comparable lifespans real world. Elves live anywhere between 200 to 1000 years on average depending on what type of elf they are (Dunmer and Orsimer being shorter lived, Orsimer capping out at about 60 years), what their social standing is, and whether they're a magic-user or not.

Sondas Drenim is a Dunmer. They live much longer than humans - for example, Brand-Shei is 295 and Barenziah was ~400 in Morrowind.

From what I've gathered, humans in Tamriel live about as long as in our world. Elves can live for hundreds of years (depending on specific race, Altmer live the longest). The lifespan of beast races is unknown.

Lifespan can be artificially prolonged with magic. Elven wizards are known to live 1000 years and even longer: the oldest of them, Divayth Fyr, reached 4000 (but he's one of a kind and can't really be compared to anyone else).

Humans have human life-spans, but elves can live much longer, and mages especially long. I rember reading somewhere that a typical Dunmer lives for 200 years, but certain Telvanni wiazrds are reported to be several thousands of years old.

There are very few of them. Such a long lifespan is highly uncommon and always supported by magic.
