Light causing lag

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 12:49 am

Hey

I picked up Skyrim today, and installed it on my very aged laptop (2gb RAM, 2.0ghz Intel core 2 duo, Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS). It runs quite choppy in areas of light, but I notice when I face a corner or dark corridor the frame rate improves dramatically. Anyway, I can't get a new laptop any time soon so I was wondering if there was any way to lower the quality of light in the game and increase my frame rate.

I have fiddled with every option in the launcher to no avail.

Set your shadows to Low and turn your Anti Aliasing Off. See how that goes.

Already tried those, I'm sorry to say. Those are the settings I'm running now. Thanks for the reply.

OP: I'm not at my desktop, so I can't check the .ini files...but maybe there are some options you can tinker with in those (Skyrim.ini or SkyrimPrefs.ini, I think).

Also, try reinstalling gpu drivers/DirectX

I updated my drivers, and so far the choppiness seems to be better. It's still choppy, but I can cope with playing like this because I have a chance of hitting my enemies now.

Thanks to you both for taking the time to help me out.

Hello,

I have this exacty same problem. Everytime i get close to a light source everything is getting very laggy. I already installed and updated Drivers and Directx.
Also had it on the lowest setting still the same problem. I know i have a crappy laptop graphic card, but still i have no problems running the normal texture's ect in this game. I only get immense lag when near a light source.
The graphic chip i have is a quadro 1000m. The rest is appropriate.
This chip should be able to run it, only the light makes things lag.
Anyone has a solution? Thanks in advance!

Hopefully someone will discover a way to fix this problem with a mod or .ini setting, or Bethesda may release a patch to fix it if enough people have this problem. Until then Banamoes, I think all we can do is hope :(
