Like sliding on ice

Hi everyone, I have had some really annoying issues with the game regarding the controls while running, it is not stuttering or lag as such, the controls basically lock up in certain areas and the character still keeps on moving in the particular direction that the last key was pushed, all other controls except for moving the view around with the mouse are completely unresponsive until the duration of the issue goes away which can take up anything from a couple of seconds to about 10 seconds. It seems that the longer I press the forward key (but it will do this in all directions) the longer it goes on for. It's basically like sliding on ice regarding the movement but nothing else is lagging like sound or graphics, hence I can see the world going by normally and move my view around and direct the character in that way without any lag eventhough I can't stop him or even open up VATS for example until it decides to stop. As I said there is no other lag I am unsure of what it could be connected to, as looking through the forum I haven't noticed anybody speaking about the same problem as I am having with the game. I will just get on to the facts, basically I am able to run the game on Ultra, even configure it to higher settings with the New Vegas configator or alternatively test it out on the lowest setting and the same issue are there, nothing changes regarding that.

Processor: Intel® Core™ i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 10
Card name: two ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series crossfirex

I hope somebody has some idea of what it could be, I have tried a couple of things already but I am at my wits end with this problem.

BTW, I have tried limiting my CPU threads used by the game but it only slows down framerate and the issue remains. I am in a pickle with this problem, I hope somebody smart can maybe figure out some kind of maverick solution, otherwise unfortunately it will have to be an uninstal even if I love Fallout and have played the series since the first one that came out when I was a teenager.

I have the same issue, seems to happen since the last patch, BUT I have to admit that I'm on a new system and haven't really played NV before the most recent patch on my new rig.

Edit: Additional info confirms it's been around before, so it's coincidence and not patch related.

It seems to me as if the character is completing an animation cycle (of the running animation) before stopping.
Don't remember seeing it before in NV, but using Google I found an older topic mentioning something like this, so it might be independent of the patch.
I also dimly remember something like this happening in FO3 as well, but I may be mistaken.

Btw. my pc is using an AMD cpu and a Nvidia GPU, so I don't think its a special hardware issue.

what a headache haha I don't think it is patch related as I had the same animation issue before the presently existing patches. I think you are completely right in saying that it is in relation to an animation cycle of sorts. Did they figure out any solutions for it in the thread you found?

Not in the thread I found, but it might be worth searching this forum and the FO3 one.

Make sure your mouse and keyboard drivers are up-to-date. ALso make sure your motherboard drivers are up-to-date. Did this issue just start one day? After the latest patch?
Is your forward key getting physically stuck? hehe prob not though i d throw that out there. :bolt:  :gun:

Here's one topic from this forum, not very helpful but it seems to confirm one suspicion I had:
It happens when releasing the movement key and rotating the view at the same time.

I'll try the mouse and keyboard drivers I guess. Motherboard is up to date and everything that I can figure out is as well, even tried to roll back to directx9 but to no avail.

Did this issue just start one day?
No, I have had this problem since the start

It doesn't get stuck, El Zoido explained it pretty well, it just gets stuck on an animation cycle of running but you can still direct the character by moving the mouse around and the world is working normally including NPCs

Go right to the source if you can. Keyboard mouse motherboard manufacturers websites.

Finally found a solution to this problem... I had it in portal 2 as well... Going into Keyboard in the Control Panel and moving the repeat rate down to the lowest setting and delay to short. Runs perfectly now and solved it but if it doesn't solve it for somebody else try changing the game priority in the process manager.
