Like? what?

It makes me wonder sometimes about the development of civilization. It took 1000 years for man to get out of the bronze age, look at what we have done in the last 40. I think we are advancing way to fast in technology. We have advanced to a point where I see we will eventually fall into a stagnation. Everything is a facsimile. Every new and improved innovation is a replica from something that came before. Take games for instance, it always has to be like the biggest seller. Where is the originality?

The sheer art of recreating something that isn't original is the method or process behind it.

Sure we build off our success, but is it the ultimate truth. The indication that something succeeds doesn't always mean it's the best we can accomplish. How do we know we're heading in the right direction?

Everywhere but at the center of attention. This has pretty much always been true, it's just more noticeable now with overbearing media.

If you want creativity, look to indie games, indie music, crowdfunding sites, amateurs.

Just wanted to post that :)

Laziness tends to drive development now. We're beyond necessity in industrialised nations. If development was driven by survival necessity the resulting invention would likely be more useful and worthwhile to humanity.

You completely contradict yourself. If we're advancing too fast, then how can we be lacking originality? If everything is a facsimile, how is that not stagnation? Technology has increased dramatically because we have better schooling, an exponentially larger population, and the ability to communicate and organize easier and more efficiently than ever before.
