A list of bugs I am experiencing.

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 8:02 am

-The Quest "Blood on Ice" failed for an unknown reason. I talked to the guards in the cemetery and went to talk to someone else, during that conversation the quest failed (I think I accused someone). The quest disappeared from my quest list and I have been unable to restart/finish the quest.

-The instruments I retrieved for the Bard College are stuck in inventory even after I completed the quests.

-In the quest "Repairing the Phial", I cannot collect a Forsworn heart. I kill the Forsworn Bravehearts and collect the Briarheart but it never checks off the quest objective. I had briarhearts and daedra hearts and human hearts in my inventory already when I accepted the quest so I got rid of them all and made sure I had none stored in any chests after it sbugged out thinking it may help, but still the quest will not complete. I have tried to kill LOTS of forsworn but nothing I do works. I have probably collected 5-10 Forsworn hearts trying to complete this quest.

-Guards attacking me in Riften when I was fighting a dragon. I may have hit them with splash damage from a fireball spell or a stray arrow possibly but I don't know for sure. I call this a bug because it seems randomn and unprovoked or at least inconsistant because I have hit guards in dragon fights before and not have them attack me.

-Companions attacking me. Barbus is a good example. I think he was hit with poison arrows and he flipped out and would nonstop chase and attack me.

-INCREDIBLE GAMESTOPPING LAG AND STUTTER after a few hours (My save file is 13MB). Maybe the memory is going astray and Bethesda needs to run a memory profiler to figure out where the memory is leaking from and plug up the holes in the game code. Small chance it is a heated up HDD or GPU but I doubt it.

-I have gotten the quest "Investigate the Red Beard sword" twice (not sure if that is correct quest title but Bethesda should know what I mean). Anytime I read the book about Red Beard it sends me on the quest. The first time I got the quest was from finding a sword, not from reading the book. Second time I got the quest was from reading the book about Red Beard. Now if I find another Red Beard sword it will send me on the quest again probably. I also may have gotten the quest from an NPC but I am not sure.

-The execution in Solitude. I accidently walked too close while it was going on and the guards attacked me. They would not stop their aggression for days afterwords. I think I fixed it by fast traveling away for an in game week. If I just ran away it didn't seem to help. Even if I waited a full 24 hours. I had no bounty when they did finally stop attacking me so I chalked it up to a bug.

-The quest where you have to brawl with the Companion leader in order to be initiated (testing out your strongarm or something), I accidently hit another member of the companions who started to attack me. Then the whiterun guards came and killed her. Then there was a big battle between the Companions and the city guards of Whiterun because of this, I had to run away before they all slaughtered each other. Now one of my companion guild mates are dead. Ria is her name and she is laying naked in Whiterun and her body wont dissappear.

-Dialogue is not always appropiate. You might be Arch Mage of the College but NPC's will tell you "If you like Magic you should join the Mages college". There are other examples that I made in aother thread but I have forgotten them already. But thats the general idea, there are alot of little dialogue immersion breakers that should maybe be fixed.

-All NPC's with marriage options are bisixual! It makes it impossible for true Heterosixual marriage since one partner is always bisixual.

I will add more when I remember them or find them. Good luck Bethesda!

Its not just the Red Beard quest that is repeating.

I just got offered the "Find the Helm of Winterhold" quest from the Jarl of Winterhold. I already completed that quest a few days ago.

So there's a deeper bug involved that might affect quests in general.

I had to kill a giant for the Jarl of Riften. Once I killed the giant it told me to collect the bounty from Skold.

I went and collected the bounty but the objective never cleared from my misc quests.

Its there and I cant click it or try handing it in again.

I've had Gerdur of the first town (riverwood?) attack me randomly once when I was leaving the merchant store. Attacked me incessantly unprovoked, i didn't even have a weapon drawn. I had killed no innocents, never stolen, and never attacked villagers. She was just out attacking me non-stop for no reason. I go into her house, and Hod, the other character in there does the same thing, so I have to kill them both eventually. The city guards do nothing, other than run away and call it a "fight".

After killing them both, I don't get a crime for it, don't get a bounty, and the rest of the villagers seem fine with me now, including Gerdurs brother, the guy you escape with at the beginning of the game.

So yeah, lots of examples of the NPC's completely wigging out unprovoked.

-Dragons sometime freeze in midair. They just float there, sometimes if I hit them it breaks them free and they start flying around again normally. It looks like they are using Slow Time or something.

-In the main quest "The Fallen", when I use the Dragon Call shout on the balcony, the dragon never shows up. I have read that others are having problems with this quest, same problem as me. Others are having problems because they completed the storm cloak quest's. I was Imperial so I only completed the Imperial quest line. The dragon just never shows up. Others say that once he lands you cant trap him if you completed the Storm Cloak quests. Either way I can no longer progress my main quest line.

--I attacked a group of StormCloak in the plains outside of Whiterun. I have already completed the Legion questline, yet when I attacked the Stormcloak soldiers I got a message that I received a bounty in Whiterun Reach. Then I got another message a minute later that my bounty was removed. Then when I entered whiterun a lone guard started to attack me. I ran into my house and he didn't follow. I then exited my house and he started to attack me, I unsheathed and then sheathed my weapon and he became friendly again. I tried talking to the guard to see if I had a bounty but I didn't.

-I then went to get another Companion quest and the grey-mane fellow started to attack me. Except he would not yield if I sheathed my weapon. The other companions attacked him and put him down on his knee, but as soon as he got back up he started to attack me again. These two bugs above are all because I killed three roaming StormCloak soldiers, who I am at war with. I am also a Thane in Whiterun.

-Everyone in DragonsReach is now attacking me as well. My fellow Companions also killed another Companion Brill for attacking me and they are fighting the DragonsReach people as well. So I basically cannot enter Whiterun without causing mass slaughter.

-People in Riften are attacking me as well now. I have zero bounty (I am reverting back to a previous save in order to avoid all these bugs).

-Had another instance of a repeating quest. The beggar in Whiterun wants me to retreive his Argonian ale again. This was one of the first misc. quests I ever did when starting the game.

- Retrieve the book "children of the sky" from the college is bugged if you already have the book from the cave, and it won't let you remove it from your inventory.

I thought I would add that the dark brotherhood shrouded cowl does not show a mask, both maskless and standard versions show my chars face with just a hood. I'm an Imperial male. I've seen it on females though?

I would also like to add sometimes when I do a stealth kill via throat slash with dagger, there's no blood sprite when I kill them nor any blood on the weapon. There's also no blood wound texture around the neck area. I have a question about the finishing animations as well..while I think they for the most part look fantastic, they seem to suddenly end abruptly and don't seem to flow smoothly. Is this a glitch or intended?

Here's hoping the underlying issue is causing this. As the lag gets worse so do the glitches. If the actual problem is solved I think alot of the issues will solve themselves.

-Louis Letrush is stuck half underground outside of Whiterun. Has been that way since very early on in the game.

This. I was pretty much bug free until the lag started. Now it seems everything is buggy.

I think you're onto something there.

-All NPC's with marriage options are bisixual! It makes it impossible for true Heterosixual marriage since one partner is always bisixual.

I would consider some of these bugs.

-I have had quests failed for unknown reasons as well. I thought it may have something to do with my main quest progression, so I am not sure it may be a bug. I haven't gone through and checked NPCs or items for loot or kill penalties as I cannot remember which quests have failed due to this.

-I still have some random trapped items in my invintory as well, Amulet of Talos springs to mind. I have done the quest, talked to girl, talked to lady, gave necklace... but I apparently made a magical copy as it is still stuck there. I did also notice the quest is stuck in my misc journal and I cannot clear it.

-Execution and Companion story make me giggle. It is kind of a bug because I am sure it has to do with the guards insane detection variable. I would personally prefer they keep it in... perhaps in that hardcoe mode everyone keeps talking about ;-)

-The dialogue yes, in a lot of instances as well... wife wont shut up about the stupid claw, then same greeting, then same shop dialogue and good bye. The guards seem to be pretty versed in thier dialogue if you have done a lot of quests, why can't other semi-important NPCs or NPCs that become important through marriage?

- The bisixual thing is going to be not a bug. It is working as intended so people can play same six couples, and have the exact same options for a mate that thier heterosixual character may seek. This falls into a personal belief thing, not really a bug.

EDIT: I only commented on those I have experienced myself... was not implying that the other stuff were not bugs.

-If you loot the runed Lexicon and sphere from Septus Sigmus's dead body at the end of his quest you will not be able to remove it from your inventory despite the quest being over and the items having no other use except as souvenirs.

I expected that would happen if I lotted those items back. It seems a lot of the problem dealing with quest items is that the quest flag is not clearing from them after the quest has been completed. I would imagine the quest flag should not clear from some items though.

-In order to start the Daedric quest "The Cursed Tribe" you have to help a group of orcs fight off a giant that is attacking their city. Depending on which direction you discover the orc city from, that group of orcs are killed before they even render visible. The gates will be closed and you will have no way of starting the quest. You have to basically use the road into the city or the quest triggers will not work correctly, and even then it is not a guarantee as there is no obvious indication that you are supposed to help the orcs fight the giant. It happens so quickly that you have to run to the giant as soon as he renders and kill him as fast as you can, and retry a dozen times until you can save the orc's life. Needs improvement. It also appears that the city gates will be open sometimes and others not.

-After I received the blessing from the Blades to help me fight dragons, I encountered a dragon that turned into a skeleton before he was even dead. Me and a giant were attacking the dragon and when his health got to around 30% he turned into a skeleton and I absorbed his soul. The dragon continued to fight me and the giant as a skeleton but I could no longer inflict damage. The giant killed the dragon for me(well killed it for a second time). Note that I was able to search and loot the dragon while it was still alive as well. My theory is that I don't think the new critical damage bonus I received from the blessing was being applied to the dragon correctly.

-I also observe critical damage is wacky when fighting regular creatures and NPC's as well. I think the game is not recognizing it correctly in the same sort of fashion as above.

-Cannot purchase Hjemir. Jurlief the steward tells me that "There is a house available but there was some tragic business that makes it unavailable for the moment" or something like that. This bug is probably because "Blood in the Ice" is bugged for me.

-Assist the people of Haafingar is at 5/5 yet still displays in my misc quest journal. Even after I became Thane it still appears in my quest journal.

-Kill the leader of Knifepoint Ridge. There is a quest marker I assume to where the leader is supposed to spawn but there is no NPC there. I have cleared the dungeon before I got the quest maybe. Anyways I have been back there four times to kill this leader but he never spawns. I have killed everyone in that place to make sure. I think maybe he fell through the floor because it looks like the quest marker is pointing to a barrel.

-Speak to degaine appears in my misc quest journal yet when I speak to degaine nothing happens. I have already completed all the quests for degaine. Its just another case of the quest journal being stuck.

-Kill the bandit leader at Stony Creek cave appears in my quest journal yet when I kill the leader, nothing happens. I have tried a few times. The dungeon is "cleared" and I have killed the person the quest marker points to.

-Kill the leader of Deepwood Redoubt. Same situation as above. I kill the leader and it doesnt trigger.

I just got the PS3 Platinum trophy!

Anyways I saved marriage for last. And of course I encountered a bug.

-I went to the temple of Mara to talk to maramel. He set me up with a ceremony for the next day. I stayed in the temple and waited 23 hours and then let the clock tick down until 24 hours had passed. It was 9:30AM when I started waiting. So now it is 9:30AM the next day and nothing happens. I leave the temple and go back in, nothing. It bugged. So I reloaded a save and tried it again. This time I went outside and waited the 24 hours. When I entered there were quests seated and the marriage proceeded how it should of been. So there is a bug if you wait inside the temple without leaving, the marriage will not start. At least that is what I think happened.

Return to V - Skyrim
