First we got the comic.

This is not a joke.

I don't really like manga as much as I did 6 years ago, but this might be pretty cool. That is if we get a translation.

What is a manga? Not something I care enough to learn about, that's for sure.

It's a (typically black and white) Japanese comic. Doesn't look like much to get excited about, since it's being printed in a children's magazine and we've already got an awesome full color English comic. Still, if it manages to nail the style of the show it'll be worth checking out.

I'm sure we'll get a translation. There's enough crossover between MLP fans and anime fans, and as a children's comic it shouldn't be hard to read. I could try my hand at it if no one else does.

Saw the Double Rainboom livestream. I have mixed feelings about it but user http://intensedebate.com/people/NostalgiaShmltz over at EQD took the words right out of my mouth as his opinion is dead on the same as mine:

Hrm...

First act: A little bit slow and dragged out, yeah. But then again, remember that we're used to 22-minute episodes where they explain everything within the first act...the "first act" is a good few minutes longer, here.

Flying scene: Memes. BG pony shoutouts. A scootachicken joke, which earns a "?_?" from me. That and, the Derpy scene was way, way, way too long. It really should have been half its length, or less. Roid Rage was completely unnecessary, as well. But other than that, flying scene. Woohoo, awesome animation.

After that: ......What the [censored] just happened? She entered a portal into the old Cartoon Network? Huh-what? Seriously what? This is just...I don't even know what to say, besides WHY. I really don't get why they did this, if they were going for something that would be an actual episode.

I mean...it's somewhat appreciated and kinda cool, I guess, but just completely unfitting, here. It doesn't really make the cartoon *BAD* though, it just...completely ruins the whole "going for something that would actually be in the show" thing. As a fan animation, it's pretty damn cool. A metric [censored]ton better than Dusk's Dawn or Snowdrop. I have a feeling that it's going to get a lot of heat because of all this completely non-canon stuff.

The letter to Celestia at the end was kinda weak, though.

Overall, pretty damn cool, I must say. Even if it completely deviated from canon, at least all those idiots that were doomsaying "BRONY MEMES: THE EPISODE" were wrong.

So anyway, I give it a 7/10.

Oh and Snowdrop was cool too...

Watching it now.

Facial expressions don't really seem to match up too well to the voices or lines. I'm not sure if I should blame the expressions themselves or the voice direction.

Animation in general is a bit slow to start, like body parts don't accelerate fast enough or something. The puppets stretch in a skewed sort of way, like what happens when I play around too much with the Perspective tool in Gimp. Technically still much better than most fan animation, but it's hitting a sort of "uncanny valley" for me right now, where it's trying to be like the show but not polished enough. Whereas the show rarely looks like a Flash animation, this definitely does.

The voice actress for Rainbow Dash needs a better mic.

The Canterlot Wedding style cutout animation is really well done. I'm not exactly sure why they used it here, though.

Yeah. This is a lot of fan service. If that's what fan episodes are going to be, I'd really like the show to stick around. But at least it's only a couple minutes. Right?

See, the way all the buildings and trees move around after the double rainboom is what I mean when I mention skewed stretching. Like the objects are only two-dimensional but being twisted around in three-dimensional space.

What?

Why are there Power Puff Girls in my MLP fan service episode?

I don't know what bothers me more, that this is in an animation called an MLP fan episode, or that I find it much better and more entertaining than the rest of the episode. Animation looks better, maybe because it's no longer trying to emulate MLP. The PPG are also better voiced than the mane 6 IMO. Huh. Maybe they should've billed it from the beginning as a crossover animation.

Oh look, Pinkie broke the fourth wall. The subject of 90% of fan comics.

Pre-PPG: 5/10
PPG: 8/10
Ending: 6/10
The much-anticipated animation: 7/10
As an amateur animation project: 8/10
As a project which took a team of 105 (I counted) 54 weeks to complete: 6/10
As an MLP fan episode: 5/10
Overall: Meh

It wasn't bad, but really not what it was hyped to be. I didn't like Snowflake much either, but I wasn't expecting it to be good and it was a project on a much smaller scale. So Double Rainboom was a double whammy of being meh and a disappointment. It's too bad; I was really looking forward to the whole "keeping the show alive" thing if it ever came to that. But if this is the best we can do, I just have to hope Hasbro doesn't royally () screw up.

Eh, I appreciated the amount of effort put into it, so it gets a good 8/10 from me. Either way, didn't even know of it's existence until it came out, so ehh....

Also, I am unsure if this has been posted in prior threads, but I figured it http://browse.deviantart.com/art/My-Little-Vivec-245027343...

Double Rainboom was pretty cool for a fan animation. I'm not gonna go into further details about it, but I'd give it an 8/10.

I thought Double Rainboom was great also. Great crossover concept, some cool in-jokes/easter eggs/pop culture references, and even the lovely Rina-chan voicing Twilight Sparkle! Well done for a fan-made animation, 9/10! :)

I'm thinking it's a joke; the human tag must take up somewhere between a third and a half of all fics submitted there.

Great News Everypony...

I'm no longer a Cynical, pessimistic [censored] and fully embrace Twilight's change into a princess/alicorn. I eagerly await/hope for new princesses to be introduce or have the rest of the mane6 turned into princesses. Also, it looks like MLPFIM will deal with shipping of mares by having Trixie be Twilight's special somepony. http://www.equestriadaily.com/2013/04/twixie-is-more-than-candy-bar.html + Image

All hail the conversion of mares into princesses/alicorns to give the target audience something they can relate to in the show. Hasbro's executive team had a stroke of brilliance with this idea, and I now realize the error of my ways!

Also, i'm getting tons of positive feedback for my Diary of the Banish story, and it will be a legendary piece with tons of views right out the gate! Believe it!

Ok... can I go back to bed now and let this day come to an end? :brokencomputer:
