My Little Pony 2: Dark Waters

I can not be the only person excited about this. Can I?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2058tC_thVc! The dialogue UI and dialogue animations look good. The VOs sound passible to fair. I love the atmosphere and design; slightly cartoony characters combine with moody, detailed environments to create a very specific tone for the game. Voodoo is the bees' knees! Not entirely sure about combat yet. The monkey -- need I say anything about the monkey?

Oh, and it's Steam-locked. :stare: I am very close to ditching the game just because of this. :ermm: Here's the http://store.steampowered.com/app/40390/, which also contains the system requirements. (Am I allowed to link to the Steam page?)

http://www.rpgsite.net/previews/361-risen-2-dark-waters-preview. It wants mini-maps. There are no mini-maps in Risen 2, which makes me happy.

Trust me, I really am interested, but I'm trying not to get too excited about this until I know my only option of a version actually comes out well. I want a nice tropical, pirate-based RPG... just not at the cost of another disappointing porting job. I've had enough of those and it's really taught me to, unfortunately, shackle video game interest pre-release. As such, there's little reason for me to be excited about screenshots and the performance of recorded footage if it is not indicative of what I may actually be seeing when or if I get the game.

I liked Risen 1. It reminded me of Gothic 2 which is a good thing because I still consider it one of the best RPG's I have ever played. So I am really looking forward to Risen 2 :D

How did I miss this? http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/02/29/hands-on-risen-2-dark-waters/. It's a bit light and fluffy, but it mentions some things that the other reviews don't.

Fair enough. Note that there is a lot of 360 footage floating around youtube. Go ahead and look it up so you get a better idea of what the porting's like. My impression is they've done a good job this time around... http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Viwu20nVORM/Tqo6TXurO0I/AAAAAAAAAPo/s2vi63g9uy0/s1600/Risen_PC_vs_Xbox_360_3.jpg.

That's another reason why I'm worried... they're even willing to show the 360 version off, but why not the PS3? There's a huge difference between the two consoles.

Played the first one's demo and it didn't really grip my attention, so while this looks great, I probably won't be getting it.

You have a PS3? Yeah, you'll have to wait. I think it takes longer to port to the 3 than the 360. Also, the 360 has the biggest market share, which is probably why marketing efforts are focused there.

 Risen 2 is said to be a general improvement on the original.

I remember hearing about Risen when it came out, and being very interested in it, but didn't play it because it got middling scores; I'm crossing my fingers this game's better.

Also, am I the only one who's really impressed by this year's RPG offerings? Between Amalur, ME3, and possibly Risen 2 and Dragon's Dogma(both of which I just learned about), there are a ton of good(or potentially good) RPGs coming out. And I still haven't finished everything in Skyrim!
Prepare to see a resurgence in RPGs. Apparently Skyrim broke the mold of the FPS multiplayer market being one of the major ways to get massive sales. Gamers are becoming increasingly prevalent and so naturally more gamers seem to be seeking more 'hardcoe' type games like RPGs are known for being as they get bored of certain genres. RPGs have always had a large market but there was a dip in the amount of RPG titles during the whole FPS upwelling of the last 5 years or so. Last year was one of the first years I can honestly remember being wowed by the lineup. IN hindsight it may have been naive but going in this was what I saw for 2011. TES 5: Skyrim, all of Fallout: New Vegas' DLC, Dragon Age 2, Dark Souls, Assassin Creed: Revelations, The Witcher 2, Skyward Sword and some others I am sure I am forgetting. All decent games but several were disappointing for various reasons. Still that many solid titles is surprising for me at least. I am kind of picky. I also did not play quite a few PC games that looked like they were solid but cannot remember the name for.

The voice acting is, well, quite mediocre... It's better than Two Worlds/2, if that counts for anything. Hopefully some of the other languages' voice acting is better. Still looks pretty! Not a lot of gameplay was shown, though. I want a gameplay trailer already!

Does this have real time sailing like Pirates of Caribbean? Or two worlds 2 if I remember corectly I saw a video where the character was pushing a boat into the water.

Because it was a pretty good game overall? Other than some of the story which kind of didn't add up but the gameplay was better IMO and it was an anticipated title for me.

Ya, sure, I just don't see how it applies to a discussion of RPGs. :P If you count it as such, though, fine, your prerogative.

Lol no I was not saying it was an RPG. Some of tHe other games on that list I made are not RPGs either like Skyward Sword for instance. I was saying in terms of good games that came out in 2011. If you ONLY enjoy RPGs though there were still a number of good ones that came out in 2011.

I'm not entirely sure. I've read that you of course have a pirate ship which can't be controlled in real time but I don't know about small boats.

I don't know. I'm almost certain real-time naval battle is out of the question, but beyond that... You do get a ship!
