My Little Pony: Threadship is Magic

Thread number 3, were doing MUCH better here guys. Lets keep it up! :D

Original post:

General information-

My Little Pony: Friendship is magic. It's not what you think. This amazing little cartoon has captured the hearts of thousands, if not millions of people who together have formed an amazing fandom. A lot of people don't understand how peope can find happiness from something originally made as a childrens show for little girls, but that right there is where they get it wrong. The show was made for children and their parents, so that anyone in any age group would be able to enjoy it. Of course there'll always be the haters, in which case bronies, use the report button. That was our mistake in the last few threads. Don't feed the trolls, flag em and move on.

To regular bronies: You know the drill, forgive and forget, love and tolerate.
To the new guys: if you are interested, heres the episodes (in glorious 1080p of course) http://www.youtube.c...lePony1080p#p/u *Looks at channel* well....most of them anyhow. Could'a swore they had em all... Anyhow, if your here for pony, stay a while, talk about ponies. If not, move along, we don't need people spamming.

*Steps to the side*

OK Guys and Gals. A last attempt at a MLP thread. Keep all the spam out please. This is for afficionados of the ponies to chat and have a bit of fun in so if you have nothing of value to add, want to cause problems or just generally be anti - this is not the topic for you. Please report any problems so the mods can sort it out before it gets out of hand. Thanks. Ro.

*Bursts back in* Adding a Q&A.

Q: I still dont fully understand why people like this, could someone elaborate what the fuss is about?

A: it a good cartoon with better writing then you will see with most cartoons anymore with nicely done characters with a oddly additive charm to it. Its actually rather adorable without becoming nauseating, genuinely enjoyable, humor that isn't just for little girls, and while the central plot for many episodes have been used plenty of times in children shows (which is not necessarily a bad thing depending on the theme) does this without turning into a mindnumbing cliche. The show itself was intended afterall to be enjoyable to the parents as well as the children hence the periphery demographic.

Didnt see any new questions really.

Okay, so here's something I've been thinking about since I re-watched ep. 1 & 2

Exhibit A: At the start of ep.1, there's this background info about the "two sisters" and the narrator's voice (Celestia's Voice Actor, it sounds like) becomes Twilight Sparkle's voice. I take this to mean that T.S. was reading the creation myth in its entirety and has the same level of knowledge as the viewer has.

Exhibit B: In ep. 2, Celestia goes to Luna and addresses her as "little sister", and all the ponies (Twilight included) express surprise.

Taken together, these would seem to indicate that T.S. & Co. didn't make the connection between the creation story's Pegasi-Unicorn Deities and Princess Celestia being one of them. But, neither are the ponies going "omg, you are 1000+ years old?!" or "omg, you are a deity?!" or other similar reactions of general "zomg!"-ness. This non-reaction indicates that the ponies are aware that Celestia is divine... but then that leads to the question of why T.S. is surprised to learn that Luna/Nightmare Moon is Celestia's sister when T.S. is aware of the creation myth.

In general, it seems to be a slight inconsistency. Can anyone think of anything that could reconcile exhibit a & b?

I think Twilight Sparkle can be a little bit of a slow thinker sometimes. She can know a lot but still not have a clue about what is going on because she takes such a long time to connect the dots. So I think she read the creation story in its entirety but just didn't register that it was about Celestia and Luna or that she just forgot.

I think the ponies all just accept that Celestia is divine in her own right and that she's probably older than any of them or even most of them put together. They've always worshiped her quite a bit.

To back up my claims of Twilight Sparkle being a slow thinker, consider that she saw Celestia ask what the Parasprites were but then claimed that she could probably take care of them, that is she didn't connect the dots between Celestia not knowing them and Celestia probably not being able to rid Fillydelphia of them.

One point I noticed however is that in episode 2 Pinkie Pie tells them how Granny Pie taught her to laugh her fears away, yet in episode 23 "The cutie mark chronicles" you learn that none of the ponies in her family had her cheerful attitude until she already had it and had thrown them a party.

Granted it is possible that Granny Pie got even more cheerful than Pinkie was at that point so she could have taught Pinkie Pie something about laughter.
