A Little Technical Help? Taskbar Problems.

Post » Sat Oct 06, 2012 3:43 am

Hi there. I've been having some troubles with my taskbar and I can't seem to find an answer on google (although I'm sure someone will be able to link me something that takes them 3 seconds to find). All I can find there are people who don't know some basic functions looking for help.

So I can't seem to unlock my taskbar. If I right click, click unlock and right click again, my taskbar will still appear to be locked. If I do it the manual way by going to properties, the same happens. I can't do any basic functions, such as pinning to the taskbar or resizing icons because of this.

This was working fine until I had a bit of a hitch with my graphics driver, which I managed to fix, but I think this is a coinkidink as it doesn't seem to be relevant at all.

Incase you're wondering, I'm using an Nvidia graphics card, GeForce GTX 560

I'm using my main administrator account that I've been using since I obtained the computer.

When I make a new account, I can unlock and play with the taskbar all I like normally. Which is another reason for me to not believe it's a driver issue. Of course I'd rather not have to go through the coffuffle of copying every file and setting up every setting for the new account, so if I can fix things for this account, I'd be greatful.

I'm using Windows 7.

Thanks.

You should be able to pin to the taskbar. "Locking" the taskbar just means you can't resize it. You can still pin icons, reorder them, etc. If you can't pin anything, there's some other issue at work, too.

hm, I can't merge that file.

"Cannot import c:\.....\Unlock_Taskbar.reg: Error accessing the registry."

Also yes, I definatly can't pin, either. If I click pin, nothing will happen. the menu from right clicking the application wont even disappear.

hm, oddly enough I changed my desktop background and I can now unlock my taskbar.

It's movable and resizable now, but I still can't pin programs or use small icons. A more specific thing to google though, I'll get to it.
