Alright so I go into the Inn and talk to the proprietor. She tells me Valdr and his hunting party are overdue to return to the city. So I run out, find Valdr near death, heal him up and then offer to help him avenge his fallen friends upon the Spriggans and bear that killed them. Dude gives me his lucky dagger, I canvas the place, and run back to Falkreath to let the Inn keeper know I found the huntin party and Valdr is burring his buddies and on his way back. Valdr turns up in the Inn too and thanks me profusely with no dialogue options appearing. The Inn keeper informs me she knows Valdr is back and is sad to hear about his buddies dying.

Now comes where I need help. The quest will not resolve. It will not label itself as complete in my journal. Anyone else run into this problem or am I missing something else I need to do to finish this quest?

I have somewhat the same problem. Only that a damn dragon killed Valdr and the quest doesn't label it self as complete

Well for you, if you are on are on the PC, you can go to into the console, click on Valdr's corpse, and type in "resurrect" and it will bring him back to life.

I have the same problem as you. Hes sitting in the inn like all is well and the quest is done. but the quest indicator is still above his head when its being tracked....

I am playing the PS3 version btw

Resurrect doesn't really help. He stands up, alive and well. No quest markers, and can't get the quest finished, really annoying.

For the fallout series on my pc there is a console command to reset quests. I don't know if that's possible with how skyrim's quest system works. And the quest may only reset to just fail again. Supposedly there is a big update being certified right now that should come out the week after thanksgiving. With performance updates and quest fixes. We shall see what is actually fixed.

I hope they fix it. I just finished the two principle quest chains, civil war and dragonborn, and I am about to restart. I didn't get to this quest till I had already taken the town for the Stormcloaks. I will try again and see if the quest bugs again with the town being in Imperial hands this time.

On a side note, I hope they add a breath bar for swimming as well. They can place it right above the health bar and make it look like a charge bar for enchanted weaponry.
